Thrilled to share my thoughts in this PhocusWire article on the transformative potential of AI in property management for the tourism sector. It was a fascinating discussion about how AI can automate routine tasks, enabling us to focus on creative and strategic work. What are your thoughts on AI’s role in our industry’s future?

The rise of AI....an interesting little read. AI and machine learning will surely play a larger role in the near future. Particularly in the hotel space of hospitality. Feller foresees an all-digital guest journey as the norm in less than five years. “We’re going to see AI really come into its own by capitalizing on the fact that convenience still reigns supreme for the vast majority of guests,” he said.  Feller added, “The extensive automation of tasks, guest communications and – crucially – decision-making will change the role of the human in hospitality fundamentally and permanently. THE RISE OF AI: REDEFINING PROPERTY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS FOR A DIGITAL AGE Interesting discussion in today’s PhocusWire about the impact of generative AI on property management systems(PMS). My take? I don’t see generative AI as a major change agent for PMS. Generative AI like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini already has wide uses in hospitality and travel in the form of chatbots for trip planning, customer service, translations, copywriting, marketing, review responses and other factors. But generative AI will have very little, if any, impact on PMS technology platforms. The real change agents in the PMS technology are general AI and machine learning (ML). Both are having a big impact on PMS and will continue to do so. General AI and ML are changing PMS technology from static depository of availability, reservation and inventory (ARI) data and guest data to a dynamic ARI and customer data platform (CDP) that is originating and influencing all operational, marketing, [customer relationship management] and pricing decisions the property makes. https://lnkd.in/eJSMWtJw

Do you think the eventual arrival of AI Agents will change the PMS and hotel game entirely? Platforms like Cloudbeds that integrate Metasearch, Email, etc… will have enormous ability to process data and personalize targeted strategies, not to user groups but to individuals. I think PMS’s are going to massively increase in size and scope. Maybe one Director of Revenue and one DOSM to manage a much more advanced system? Customizable reports will be almost unlimited in function and automatic. High level and detailed data, anytime anywhere. How much of the group sales funnel can be automated with an intelligent CRM? MEWS automates payment processing already. How long before you walk through the door at your big box brand and your phone automatically pings with your keycard, room number, pre-auth, etc? You just turn and head for the elevator unless you want to speak to the concierge. Wait… will the front desk staff be obsolete and completely transition to concierge service? Mind blowing times are coming.

As generative AI continues to evolve, property management systems are likely to become more intelligent, efficient, and responsive to the needs of property owners, managers, and tenants. This transformation has the potential to streamline operations, increase profitability, and drive innovation in the real estate industry as a whole.
