Yesterday I was fortunate enough to hear Kate Raworth speak at at event organised by An Taisce and Green Campus on Doughnut Economics 🍩 hosted at IMMA - Irish Museum of Modern Art. Kate's energy and passion for creating a sustainable and just world were compelling. Here are some key takeaways that resonated with me: 🍩 ⁠Ideas are powerful, but action is key: We need to move beyond simply talking about sustainability and start implementing solutions. Kate highlighted the importance of community-led initiatives and the power of networks to drive change. 🍩⁠ ⁠Embrace playfulness and creativity: Economics doesn't have to be dry and intimidating. Raworth encourages us to use visuals, storytelling, and even play to engage people in conversations about our economic future.   🍩⁠ ⁠ Don't be afraid of friction: As we gain traction, we'll inevitably encounter resistance from those invested in the status quo. We need to be prepared to challenge outdated narratives and push for systemic change. 🍩 ⁠Connect across world views: The Doughnut Economics model resonates across cultures and perspectives, bridging the gap between Western economic thought and indigenous wisdom. At Accelerating Action, we're inspired by Kate's vision and her call to action. We're building the tools to help communities and organisations measure their impact, track progress and collaborate towards a more regenerative future. It's #EarthDay, and to celebrate we are proud to present our most recent Global Goals Report! This report illustrates the good work that City, University of London has produced in 2023 in response to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs), which form a commitment to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure peace and prosperity. Sustainability is a key component of City’s corporate strategy, and the University aims to embed sustainability into its research, teaching and corporate governance. Taking a wide-lens approach to the SDGs, the report highlights four key themes: #research, #education, #engagement and #operations. Embedding a Culture and Heritage Capital Approach

Creative skills and leadership drive regional economic growth The concept of unifying a growth industry such as film with educational systems is based on the importance of innovation. It is through innovation that communities can break out of long established and stagnated thought cycles of how regional growth can be achieved and allows for the creation of new ways of envisioning a sustainable future. Through partnerships between the innovation-based centers of education and innovation-based industries, new ecosystems are possible that provide economic, cultural, and social growth with environmentally conscious consequences. The future does not mandate a zero-sum result. As this article of such innovative planning progress in England demonstrates, there is a better way of thinking, that can achieve a more equitable future while creating meaningful progress. It was an interesting journey as I took the course on Systems thinking and Sustainability. My work entailed using General Systems Theory to study the interactions of each complex intervention on the complex system of the Eko Atlantic City project using the SDGs as a sustainability framework. We need to begin to look at topics and issues from the lens of systems theories, ranging from international politics and governance to Humanities, the IT space and other Industry 4.0 perspective.

Regen Melbourne: A Living Strategy! I. Systems Transformation 20th century approaches to strategy are severely limited by linear theories of change, narrow boundaries, and first-order measurement frameworks. This feels disjointed from the approaches we need to move towards a systems transformation made up of the messiness, participation and dynamism we expect when centering life II. Regen Melbourne Regen Melbourne (RM)'s work sits at the intersection of many new models, frameworks, worldviews and approaches. These include Doughnut Economics, mission-oriented innovation, systems thinking, regenerative practice, collective impact, and a variety of inner practices that connect our personal development to the outer change we aspire to III. The RM Periodic Table  Just as in nature, certain elements of RM’s strategy are stable and strong, and others are unstable and dynamic. And of course, there is a spectrum between. As an example, at the top of the RM periodic table you will see strategic elements like vision and purpose (Vp), principles (Pr) and governance structure (Go) . These are all highly stable elements that create the founding building blocks of their work. In contrast, as you work your way down the RM periodic table, you will find elements like impact model (Im), projects (Pp) and operations (Op), all becoming more and more unstable and dynamic. Of course, neither stable or unstable is inherently good or bad.
