In response to food insecurity in the Woodhill community during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sharon Stone and former FCPS colleagues created the Woodhill International Market. The initiative offers bi-weekly grocery "shares", providing fresh produce on a sliding scale from $15 to $40. Families pay what they can afford, ensuring access to nutritious food regardless of financial situation. The program helps ease the burden of food costs while supporting community wellness. Filmed and edited by me!

"It isn't just about making access to any type of food. It's about making access to the foods that are relevant, are important, that means something to families." - Carolyn Belisle, Director, Corporate Social Responsibility, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island. Food insecurity isn't solved by just providing any available food. It's solved by understanding the cultural and personal significance of the meals we share. Through our mobile food pantries and community events, we're bridging gaps and building connections, one meaningful meal at a time. We're the ELISHA project. For more than a decade, our Double Up Food Bucks program has helped families in Flint, Michigan access more fresh fruits and vegetables. In fact, Double Up has been so popular in Flint that the city has become a centerpiece for program innovations. But despite this historic impact, Double Up usage in Flint — unlike in every other community where the program is available in Michigan — has declined in recent years. We recently launched a new community engagement strategy in Flint that increased Double Up usage by 49% in 2023. Read our latest impact report for more about our efforts to help Flint families, farmers, and food businesses thrive by increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables. https://lnkd.in/gh6nX44u
