A recent University of Michigan study highlights the positive economic impact of the electric vehicle (EV) industry, showing that EV manufacturing creates more jobs than traditional fossil fuel vehicles. At Lynkwell, we are proud to be part of this transformative industry, contributing to job creation and economic growth in our community as well as the communities where our solutions are deployed. From manufacturing EV charging hardware right here in the U.S. to deploying charging infrastructure nationwide, our work is about more than advancing e-mobility—it’s about supporting the people and places that power the clean energy transition. For a deeper dive into the study’s findings, check out this article from CleanTechnica: https://hubs.la/Q030zTXP0

My daughter recently pointed out to me that our neighbor purchased a new Honda Prologue EV. Our conversation then turned into a discussion regarding fuel efficiency in EVs - are some EVs more efficient than others, and if so which ones? Apex Analytics and Rolling Energy Resources (now part of ev.energy) partnered together earlier this year to answer this exact question for the Northwest Regional Technical Forum (RTF). The study looked at both EPA efficiency ratings as well as real-world driving and charging from thousands of vehicles on the RER platform. The study concluded that real world efficiency can differ substantially from EPA ratings (see the chart below which segments by the selected EPA test methodology), plus efficiency varies widely, not just by manufacturer but also by model, trim, and even tire size. Weather makes a big difference as well, lowering efficiency by as much as 15% during the coldest and hottest months of the year. The study and presentation can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gcaRe_NN

Despite challenges faced by the automobile industry, global EV sales surged by 31% in 2023, reaching 13.6 million units. Projections suggest that this growth trend will continue, with sales expected to expand fivefold to nearly 67 million units by 2035, supported by advancements in battery technology and supportive government policies. Read the full article below to dive deeper into the structural tailwinds driving EV development and adoption 👇

Lowering emission limits as domestic EV manufacturing ramps up will accelerate a transformation already underway in Georgia. Over the last few years, private companies have poured billions into new EV and battery production facilities in Georgia in response to lucrative federal and state incentives. At the same time, electric cars and trucks that were once curiosities have become more common and drivers have access to nearly 2,000 public charging locations in the state. https://lnkd.in/er7N-p-M

The new EPA standards for model years 2027 to 2032 are entirely within reach and will get millions of people into cleaner, more affordable, and high tech vehicles. It's an unambiguously good thing. Now that we know at a minimum how quickly the switch to electric vehicles will happen, electric utilities and regulators need to get to work right now ensuring the charging infrastructure is being built so we can power all these vehicles affordably. As EV sales soar, building a comprehensive charging network for cars and trucks of all sizes will smooth the transition for drivers, and we look forward to working with state and regional leaders to meet these challenges with policy solutions that helps us build a resilient and reliable charging network and electric grid. https://lnkd.in/gCKxw_f7

BloombergNEF’s released the Long-Term Electric Vehicle Outlook 2024. Highlights: • Passenger EV sales are expected to exceed 30 million in 2027 in BNEF’s base case scenario and grow to 73 million per year in 2040 • Strong and carefully structured policy support is still needed, however, on all vehicle segments but one to get on track for net-zero trajectory • According to BNEF’s Net Zero scenario, for the world to achieve a totally zero-emission vehicle fleet by 2050, sales of combustion vehicles will need to stop around 2038. In the Economic Transition Scenario, only the Nordic countries reach a full phase-out of combustion vehicles before 2038. • Currently, only one segment of road transport – three-wheeled vehicles – is fully on track to reach net zero by mid-century. https://lnkd.in/dMt9pxSw

Following on the heels of our CLE that explored the Top Issues and Opportunities Facing the EV Industry, Levi McAllister and I penned this article to further emphasize that EV proliferation will continue in the United States because legacy OEMs are mastering the EV manufacturing process and MPGe bench-testing practices to gain consumer confidence. It is critical for public and private partners to double-down on their efforts to expand our EV fast-charging infrastructure to provide consumers with similar pit stop times as ICE vehicles. The fairway is wide open for companies who want to become substantial players in this space. #wearemorganlewis #automotive #mobility #electricvehicles #EVs #energy #EVcharging
