How to be sure your child is school ready. Here's my experience: I taught Pre-K and I homeschooled my son for preK and when he enrolled in kindergarten he was already advanced and on a 1st grade reading and writing level. My child was learning every day.  Benefits: It gets your child to love learning, Better grades, Parent to child bonding moments. Here's how I did it: buy preK workbooks for $2 or print or sketch out free printables online for free, allow your child to do about 5 per day and plenty of educational playtime, my child also only watched sprout, PBS kids, and KET, give your child games for everything potty, bedtime, walking, eating (cut food into shapes), buy them educational toys and books, ask your child unknown questions for them to figure out and easy questions for practice, also get your child to also ask questions.

7- Take turns reading Great for: Kindergarten to 4th grade As your child begins to read you can invite them to read to you. Don’t push if they don’t want to, but as their confidence builds they’ll be excited to share their new skill with you. This may look like you both taking turns reading a new chapter book, or they may want to share all the creature descriptions from their favorite new computer game. No matter the topic, do your best to listen intently and congratulate them on their reading skills. 8- What happens next? Great for: Kindergarten to 4th grade Keep reading fun and active when you step outside the book and asking your child what happens next: What do they think will happen? What would you like to see happen? What’s something funny that could happen? Any question that gets them thinking through the story on their own is both fun and helpful for reading comprehension. 9- Talk about the pictures Great for: Kindergarten to 2nd grade Pictures are a great way for kids to follow along with a story. When your child is beginning to read, have them look at the pictures and ask what they think is going on. As they unravel the story, point out the words they are discovering in the text. Or just let them enjoy creating their own unique version of the story based on the pictures.

What student challenges occurred when I founded my school 33 years ago? There are 3 modalities of different kinds of learners. They are: 1. Visual Learners who learn best by what they see 👀 2. Auditory Learners who learn best by what they hear 👂 3. Kinesthetic Learners who learn best with their hands 👐 Most of us learn best with what we see; some of us learn best with what we hear; and then a few of us learn best with our hands. The children who learn with their hands need teachers who are aware of their needs in this way or else students often miss out with what is being taught. Class size also needs to be taken into account also, so a teacher can teach all three of these learning modalities in the classroom. Too many students in one classroom makes it very difficult, sometimes impossible, to teach effectively to all three modalities. In this video, I tell of my son's needs as a kinesthetic learner when he was in school and how I reached out to teachers who could help enable all three kinds of learners with their learning needs. Then by controlling the class size to help allow the teacher to teach all of the different learning modalities in the classroom, the student challenges can be addressed.
