More Northern Lights to be seen in County Donegal. The view from Carrickabraghy Castle on the Isle of Doagh, Inishowen, Co. Donegal. Carrickabraghy Castle is a historic fortification located on the Isle of Doagh. Situated on the Inishowen Peninsula, this castle stands as a significant relic of Irish medieval history, offering insights into the region's past political and social landscape. The surrounding landscape is breathtaking, offering dramatic coastal views, and nearby, you'll find other historical sites like Doagh Famine Village, which explores Ireland's famine history and traditional rural life. The Northern Lights are an atmospheric phenomenon that's regarded as the Holy Grail of skywatching. Aurora borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, is a natural light display that occurs in the polar regions, mainly in the Arctic. Generally the best places in Europe to see the aurora borealis are the Nordic countries of Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland, which lie within or near the Arctic Circle. But visible across many parts of County Donegal in recent years! 📸 Dominique Bablee McDaid #northernlights #auroraborealis #donegal #discoverdonegal #ireland https://lnkd.in/e8i2v9WB

Have you been to any of these Northern California towns? World Atlas features six often overlooked NorCal towns with a rich history: Fort Ross, Angels Camp, Chester, Mariposa, Independence, and Coarsegold. "Northern California could be a country on its own. The site of Native American history, gold rush fortune seekers, and even a former Russian colonial settlement, the upper half of the "Golden State" offers a virtual lifetime of places to see, things to do, and Sierra Nevada mountains to climb. Established as a US state in 1850, California's north quickly grew into the famous place we know today, hosting creative types, famous natural beauty in Yosemite National Park, and world-changing technology companies. For a regional past as dramatic as its present, travelers will love these history-rich northern California towns." Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gau2uZQM

Epic Ecosystems: Pacific Northwest North America’s Pacific Northwest Coast is one of the most alluring, diverse, productive and awe-inspiring regions on the planet. This vast region stretches from the Alaskan Panhandle, through the Canadian province of British Columbia and into the U.S. states of Washington, Oregon and northern California. The entire region is bound by the mighty Pacific Ocean to the west with the Coastal Mountains and Cascade Range to the east. Here lies a tapestry of interconnected ecosystems where one can easily roam from rugged ocean shores to towering mountains, temperate rain forests to high plains deserts, and large metropolitan areas to countryside farms. What makes this region so unique can be found in its diversity and bounty, in both culture heritage and natural resources.

#Mangroves are vital #ecosystems that thrive at the interface between land and sea. It was my pleasure to #associate with significant #mangrove ecosystems, particularly in states like #WestBengal, and #Odisha in the recent past. Here are their key #contributions and #importance: 1. #Biodiversity: Mangroves provide habitat for a diverse range of species, including fish, crustaceans, birds, and mammals, supporting both terrestrial and marine life. 2. #CoastalProtection: They act as natural barriers against storm surges, coastal erosion, and flooding, helping to protect shorelines and human settlements. 3. #CarbonSequestration: Mangroves are highly effective at capturing and storing carbon dioxide, playing a crucial role in mitigating climate change. 4. #WaterQuality: They filter pollutants and improve water quality by trapping sediments and absorbing excess nutrients, which helps maintain healthy marine environments. 5. #NurseryGrounds: Many fish species depend on mangroves as nursery grounds, providing a safe habitat for juvenile fish before they move to open waters. 6. #SustainableResources: Mangroves offer resources such as wood, honey, and traditional medicines, supporting local communities’ livelihoods. 7. #EconomicValue: Healthy mangrove ecosystems can boost tourism and recreational activities, contributing to local and national economies. 8. #CulturalSignificance: For many coastal communities, mangroves hold cultural and spiritual importance, reinforcing their connection to the environment. Here are some key points about the mangroves along the #Indianeastcoast: 1. #BiodiversityHotspots The #Sundarbans in #WestBengal is the largest mangrove forest in the world and a #UNESCO #WorldHeritage Site. It is known for its rich biodiversity, including the #RoyalBengaltiger. 2. #CoastalProtection These mangroves play a crucial role in protecting coastal areas from erosion and storm surges, particularly during the monsoon season and cyclones. 3. #Fisheries and #Livelihoods Mangroves provide critical nursery habitats for various fish species, supporting the livelihoods of local fishing communities. They are essential for sustaining the region's fisheries. 4. #ClimateRegulation Indian east coast mangroves contribute to carbon sequestration, helping mitigate climate change impacts and enhance local resilience. 5. #EcologicalServices They filter pollutants, improve water quality, and support a range of flora and fauna, maintaining ecological balance. 6. #Threats The mangroves face threats from urbanization, industrial development, aquaculture, and climate change, leading to habitat loss and degradation. 7. #ConservationEfforts Various initiatives are underway to restore and protect mangrove forests, including community-led conservation programs and #governmentpolicies.

Forgotten woodlands of Scotland – fascinating new resource that uses place names to help us understand where our woodlands use to occur https://lnkd.in/e3hWEs7Q Coilltean Caillte (Gaelic for 'Forgotten Woodlands') is a partnership project that has mapped over 15,000 Scottish place-names that suggest the presence of woodland. Many of the names appear in areas of ancient woodland, but others lie in open ground. Could these be the locations of long-forgotten woodlands?
What's in a name? Many of the forests and landscapes that we look after are steeped in folklore and bear Gaelic, Scots, Norse and Pictish names that describe their appearance or reflect their cultural importance. That's why we're excited to be part of a new project with NatureScot and Ainmean-Àite na h-Alba to map Scotland's woodland-related placenames. The Forgotten Woodlands project - alongside ecological surveys, community consultations and other datasets - will help us to understand the landscapes we care for and inform decisions about their future management. Find out more at the link in the comments.

🧐 How is life in paradise? And how is that reflected in your relationship with #water? 💪 That's what we #Xplored together with the community of #Saba and how the Xploration Coastline Concept could support therein. Possible spin-off effects are 👉 stimulating regional collaboration and 👉 providing a complementary supply of low cost water. Further deep-diving is foreseen and will happen in the coming weeks. ✌ This visit is two of four. Looking forward to similar interaction on Saint Kitts & Nevis, and Antigua & Barbuda in November. Understanding the collective island overarching potential is elemental to organize the guarantees towards a regional #WaSH-fund. https://lnkd.in/gSs8Y_b #XplorationCoastlineConcept #Xplorit #Saba #Waterasacommon
