Google answering to the backlash from the AI Overviews, explaining how they work and improvements they’ve made: * While AI Overviews are powered by a customized language model, the model is integrated with Google core web ranking systems, built to only show information that is backed up by top web results * The’ve seen nonsensical new searches, seemingly aimed at producing erroneous results * They have seen AI Overviews misinterpret language on webpages and present inaccurate information. They worked quickly to address these issues * They have built better detection mechanisms for nonsensical queries that shouldn’t show an AI Overview, and limited the inclusion of satire and humor content * They updated their systems to limit the use of user-generated content in responses that could offer misleading advice * They added triggering restrictions for queries where AI Overviews were not proving to be as helpful Interestingly, I’ve been preparing a presentation about it for today’s #doconference2024 and seen in the last day a lot of fluctuation and far less AIO included 👀 More 👇 Link in comments
