A great lesson in understanding that it's not just about selling your customer, but also learning about your customers' needs and how you can build that lasting relationship. What a great lesson! Thank you for sharing.
Growing up, there was a four-year period when our family fell on hard times, and the one meal we ate out each week was at the local Waffle House on Wednesday nights. Those evenings were special, not just because of the treat of eating out but because of someone who made the experience truly memorable: our waitress, Miss Latricia. Miss Latricia knew we’d be there every week, and she always remembered my exact order. For a kid like me, that was a big deal. I often draw on my Southern roots and my experiences at Waffle House to illustrate the profound difference between a transaction and a partnership. If I simply walked into Waffle House, ordered an All-Star Special, and ate it, that would be a transaction. But my relationship with Miss Latricia was so much more than that. She wasn’t just serving me food; she was taking the time to get to know me and my family. One particular Wednesday, Miss Latricia came up to our table and said, “Barrett, I know you just came from football practice, so I got you some extra crispy bacon for your protein. Also, I remembered this month is your half-birthday, so I put some chocolate chips in your waffle. Here you go!” Miss Latricia knew my order before I even sat down, but more importantly, she cared enough to proactively anticipate my needs. That’s what a true partnership looks like. No matter what industry you’re in, a partnership is always more valuable than a transaction. That’s the approach I take with my clients. Building strong, lasting partnerships is essential to me. It’s about more than just meeting immediate needs; it’s about understanding and anticipating them. For several years, Miss Latricia received our family’s Christmas card—a testament to the genuine partnership we shared. That's what a partner looks like, not just a service provider.

THE MILK TRAY MAN You know the one…the ad from the 70s, 80s, 90s, where the chap’s dressed from head-to-toe in black, and going to extraordinary lengths to make sure his chocolates are always delivered on time and in pristine condition to the lucky recipient. “All because the lady loves 🍫…” n’all that. This December - although I’ll not be dressed head-to-toe in black, nor styling it out whilst jumping through windows and climbing up the side of buildings - I’ll yet again be crisscrossing the countryside, making sure all of our Truffle & Thyme Christmas hampers are safely delivered, yes, you guessed it…on time and in pristine condition 😉! Last December I did the same, and the year before that, and the year before that - this will be Christmas no.5 doing it like this in fact. Instinctively, you might well wonder why I don’t use a courier? It’s not that I don’t want to; when the volume of sales dictates it, I’ll be the first person to pick up the phone to Darren Moore from Dash Couriers. The way I see it is that if I CAN do it myself, then I WILL do it. Maybe this December might be the tipping point for me and Truffle & Thyme, but that’s growth, which is a good thing thing. However, it won’t mean I’ll stop delivering myself; I’ll still be out there chewing up the miles, but hopefully leaving the extras to be taken care of by Darren and his team. So, if you’re looking for some delicious team or client gifts this December, personally hand-delivered, then look no further. I’ll quite literally go the extra mile for you. “All because….” it’s Christmas! https://lnkd.in/ec2ED-ZS
