🎄 What Makes a Holiday Party Inclusive? Let's Find Out! 🎄 This week, I gave my students an interesting challenge: design an inclusive julebord! For those outside Norway, the julebord is our end-of-year celebration—a mix of food, drinks, and joy. But how do we make it truly inclusive? My students got creative and considered: Religion: Ensuring the menu and activities respect all beliefs. Ethnicity: Including traditions and flavors from different cultures. Families: Making it accessible for parents, kids, and everyone in between. Now, I have three challenges for you: Think beyond tradition—what if we included new foods, drinks, or activities? Involve diverse voices in planning. Inclusion starts with representation. Celebrate the planners! Acknowledge their contributions to your team's success. Let’s use the holiday season to celebrate everyone. How would you make your next event more inclusive? Looking forward to your thoughts!

Let's talk about empathy. We all know that empathy involves putting yourself in someone else's position to see things from their perspective and feel what they're feeling. But in this hustle and bustle culture, are we truly allowing empathy in our daily lives? Are we losing touch with being empathic and kind to people we meet in our daily settings? Are we taking the people closest to us for granted? Are we losing empathy to the natural environment and the animals we share our planet with? It's so easy to forget being empathic in the daily grind and the stresses which come with it, but are we taking a moment to really put this into practice? Empathy enhances our humanity, benefitting both ourselves and others. Research indicates it fosters meaningful connections, improves understanding of diverse perspectives, and contributes to our overall well-being. What can we do to be more mindful of how we practice empathy? For myself, spending time admiring the trees I have planted just across the road, or at my work place MCAST, helps me ground myself more. Grounding myself helps me feel calmer and less stressed, allowing space to look at the bigger picture of life, rather than the individualised aspect of modern life. Photo: Taken in St. James's Park in Dublin in February 2023. Had a special moment watching this mesmerising tree while sipping a cup of coffee. #empathy #trees #mindfulness #kindness #grounding #calm #health #environment

America needs to embrace radical hospitality. Just as Jesus did. One thing often overlooked in stories about Jesus is how much time he spent around the table, sharing a meal. He consistently invited others—friends, strangers, even those seen as outcasts—to join him in this deeply human act. In his time, this was more than hospitality; it was a powerful practice of philoxenia, or “love of the stranger,” a profound and counter-cultural embrace of “the other.” Jesus practiced hospitality in a way that transcended borders, culture, and status. He met people where they were, with a heart wide open to connection. He taught us that xenophobia (fear of the other) has no place in a faith that was built on loving our neighbors as ourselves. This principle, philoxenia, is deeply woven into the fabric of the Christian faith and, at its best, into the foundation of America itself. Today, this message is more relevant than ever. Hospitality isn’t just inviting people to our tables; it’s creating spaces of welcome and connection in our lives, workplaces, and communities. It’s about understanding that when we fear or exclude those who are different, we miss out on the richness that diversity brings. Imagine the ripple effect if we lived by this radical hospitality, in line with the faith that many claim and the values this country was built upon. In a time that often feels so divided, a commitment to philoxenia can lead us back to connection, compassion, and a reminder that we’re all neighbors here. Let’s open the doors, both literally and figuratively, to welcome others. As Jesus showed us, true community happens around the table. #hospitality #america #fde

In a society structurally biased and deeply entrenched along the lines of caste and gender both, incarceration and capital punishments are not the answers to gender-based crimes; the perpetrators can pay their way out and instead marginalized sections bear the brunt. It is slowly becoming apparent to everyone that perhaps it is more important to address the problem at its root; patriarchal control of women's bodily autonomy and mobility. I'd accompany reading Why Loiter? with this episode from Anurag Minus Verma's podcast, to understand more about patterns of unjust incarceration in India: https://lnkd.in/g3JQkuMC

There's something truly magical about the art of hospitality! ✨ It’s more than just offering a warm meal or a cozy bed; it's about creating a sanctuary where strangers can feel at home. Have you ever welcomed someone into your space and felt the energy shift? 🌈 When we invite others in, we open our hearts and minds, fostering connections that can last a lifetime. Think about it: What does hospitality mean to you? Is it the aroma of fresh-baked cookies wafting through the air, or the laughter shared over a table full of food? 🍽️ Each moment spent together can turn a stranger into a friend, bridging gaps and creating memories. In a world that often feels divided, our sanctuaries can be places of unity and understanding. When was the last time you invited someone new into your circle? 🤔 Whether it's hosting a casual get-together, participating in community events, or simply sharing your story, every act of hospitality has the potential to change lives. Let’s celebrate the power of welcoming others! Share your experiences and thoughts below. How has hospitality impacted your life? 🌍💖 #HospitalityMatters #WelcomeHome #StrangersIntoFriends #CommunityLove #TogetherWeThrive

“I love to tell the story of why I created these dinners because they are a reminder that your curiosities and passions are there for a reason and that who you are at the core is what makes you and your creations effortlessly special. So here it goes ☺️ Even though I had been living in Lisbon since 2020, it was only at the beginning of 2022 that I realised I wanted to make this my home. 🏠 Making a place your home doesn’t just require a physical space, but an emotional one too. Put simply, I was looking for a community I could resonate with. Lisbon has many events for expats to offer. I went to almost all that sparked my interest remotely. However, most of the events I attended felt transactional to me, and I was looking for more depth in people and conversations. I also noticed that many communities were on the extreme end: business communities were too much into doing, and conscious/spiritual communities were too much into being. I am somewhere in the middle. One day it dawned on me that the best way to find what I was looking for was to create it myself. So I designed a dinner experience that incorporated my favourite activities: silence, meditation, breathing and contemplation. Then I found a place with a great cook and staff. I knew this was going to create the depth, connection and meaning I was looking for. And sure enough, I was right! People loved it. The dinners started to spread like wildfire, with long waitlists every time. The Conscious Leaders dinner has received phenomenal feedback over the years and is by far my favourite way to meet new people. 🤗 It blows my mind every time how much it resonates with people, how much joy and connection it creates, knowing how it all really started: with my own desire for community. I feel fully in my purpose when I am bringing people together in a conscious and connected way. And this is why I’m writing this post; to remind you to follow that impulse, that passion, that curiosity, and you’d be surprised to which beautiful places it may lead you. 💛” - Kat, Founder of humanplus
