Last weekend a milestone was chalked up at VetCheck 247. One of our superstar emergency nurses Emma R took the 100,000th call to our service. That's a lot of calls in just under 3 years of operation! One of the differences with our service compared to other triage services is that we have nurses taking every call, so urgent cases can be immediately sent in to the on-call vet if needed. There's no initial wasting time entering credit card details to have a paid teleconsult with a vet only be told that it is a dire emergency and the patient needs to be seen in-clinic urgently (the owner knew that already!). In non-urgent cases, advice can be given by our experienced triage nurses or the client can have a teletriage consultation with one of our vets. Fun fact: ~70% of calls don't need to be seen as an emergency. The on-call vet can have better quality downtime with less disturbance overnight or on weekends and public holidays. The non-emergency patient can be seen during regular hours at the clinic the next day. So, what was the reason for the 100,000th call? Snake bite, horse with colic, vomiting dog, tick paralysis ....? No, it was a lost cat with a very distraught owner. Definitely not a phone call that the on-call vet needed to take after hours! Our nurses ease the load for the on-call vets again.

Great Review from The RN Network ✍🤓 🤜💥🤛 In the fast-paced environment of bedside care, nurses often face high-stakes situations, especially when managing patients in different stages of shock. Shock, a life-threatening condition, can manifest in various forms—hypovolemic, cardiogenic, distributive, and obstructive—each with unique causes and symptoms. Recognizing the early signs, such as hypotension, rapid heart rate, altered mental status, or cold and clammy skin, is critical for timely intervention. In hectic assignments, maintaining situational awareness and adhering to best practices, such as rapid assessment and fluid resuscitation, can make the difference between life and death in a patient's outcome.
very good review on type of Shock !! #emergency #paramedic #medicine #education #healthcare #gyathshammha #rn #rt

This is a gentle reminder for you to complete the BVNA’s VN Profession Survey, by the closing date of 30th June 2024 📆 💻 BVNA members have been sent a link via email, but you can also access the survey here; https://loom.ly/sPxWzoM We've had some interesting results already from survey. Do you agree with our findings so far? 👉 💭 Of the people who have completed the survey so far, 54% know someone who is called ‘veterinary nurse’, without being trained. Some respondents don’t mind that untrained staff are called vet nurse as long as they work hard. Whilst others feel strongly that it shouldn’t be happening as it devalues the VN training and skills, that it misleads clients or that they are risking patient health as they don’t have to keep up to date with current best practice. 💬 How do you feel about untrained staff being called ‘veterinary nurse’? BVNA feel that this is an opportunity to start conversations in practice. Now is the time to offer training to members of the team to ensure everyone can support patient care to the best of their ability. Create a staff board to go up in the waiting room, clearly identifying all the staff and their qualification. 👉 Read more about the survey here; https://loom.ly/_ngjBtw #WhatVNsDo #ProtectTheTitleVN
