FACT! 👎 As of 2023, you can only deduct 50% of the cost of business meals with clients. In addition, if you have any entertainment costs associated with your client dinners (like sports tickets), those expenses are not deductible. 🙅 Feeling confused by the ever-changing tax laws? Now for something completely different. Are you one of the 76% of Australians that worry about being able to afford to pay for vet expenses if your beloved family member were to get sick or injured? Did you know that only 31% of pets are insured? Initial testing and screening is often viewed as a costly expense and only a small handful of progressive veterinary practices have embraced ongoing wellness subscriptions to account for it. When fees are too high to cover in one bite, buy now pay later solutions are often offered but with fees of between 4-6% charged to the practice they can be prohibitive to a practices profit margins, so much so that many simply don't offer them and a result either don't offer payment plans or rely on your doing consistent EFT payments until the invoice is paid off. Why don't more vets offer monthly or quarterly wellness plans and easy payment plans for unexpected and costly services? We plan to find out. I will be talking about these ideas, and other solutions Pinch Payments can offer at #TheVetExpo this Friday afternoon. At Pinch we have solved cash flow pain for a lot of businesses but this is new territory. With rising cost of living pressure, affording vet fees is becoming harder for Australian families and as a result keeping the lights on is getting more and more challenging for practices as a result. Meanwhile pet health suffers as a result. It is our goal to help more vet practices embrace things like subscriptions and payment plans to provide more comfort to their customers, while stimulating their own cash flow, in a cost effective way. As a pet owner would you find any of these solutions beneficial? I'd love to hear from you in the comments below. #vet #veteranary #vetpractice #vetcare #vets #pinchpayments #vettech #payments #fintech

Tomorrow was supposed to be the day that millions of workers were freed from noncompete agreements, but unfortunately a federal judge in Texas said otherwise. This was an expected outcome which is why I have continued to advise that veterinarians (and all others) should not expect the FTC to save them from unethical noncompete clauses; you must save yourself. The only way that we are going to be able to make noncompete clauses go away is simple: JUST DON'T SIGN ONE. EVER. Also, if you have the ability and time, contacting your state legislatures and veterinary medical associations to attempt to get a law passed is also an AMAZING way to get the profession/country headed in the right direction. This has been highly successful in several states including Maryland and Maine for outlawing noncompetes for veterinary professionals. The good news is that the fact that noncompetes have been at the forefront of employment news for the last couple years greatly improves your negotiating power. You should never sign a noncompete and you should tell the potential employer why you are walking away from the job offer (see my previous posts for some examples). Noncompetes serve NO LEGITIMATE business interest and many practice owners that have them because that is “how they’ve always done it” or a lawyer suggested it to them decades ago. The excuses for noncompetes are poor and are about controlling an employee and making it difficult to leave. The legitimate business interests these practice owners claim that noncompetes serve would all be covered by a nonsolicitation agreement, nondisclosure agreement, or trade secret agreement. Noncompetes should not be in vet med because they: 1) Result in increased patient suffering and death 2) Worsen the veterinary professional mental health crisis 3) Negatively impact pet owner mental health The impact they've had on millions of lives cannot be overstated. This is not over. Do not be discouraged. The tide has already turned. Do not sign a noncompete. Do not let your friends sign a noncompete. Spread the word. Share your stories. Stay strong together. #VetMed #VeterinaryMedicine #EliminateNoncompetes #EndTheVeterinaryNoncompete
