Never thought I would have to say this in #Udupi. The Udupi I grew up in was an enlightened place. It is still one of the most forward thinking small towns in India. Presenting to you a case story in economics playing out live in front of our eyes. A clash between fresh v/s factory. A clash between traditional v/s modern. A case story to understand if Udupi still retains it's forward thinking chops. The topic is #diwali sweets. For the past 2 Diwalis, factory made Soan Papdis have outsold freshly made local sweets to the point that local sweetmakers are even unsure about how much to produce this year. The "2 for 1" deals on boxes of Soan Papdis is not something that local sweetmakers can compete with. Especially if the buyers think that factory made Soan Papdis laced with (NOT!) healthy doses of preservatives and made with NOT ghee are "good enough" to give to their friends and family. The way the story has panned out in the previous 2 years, it seems that in a few more years, factory made, preservative-rich sweets will be the ONLY thing we will all be eating. Unless local commerce has a sting in it's tail. Let us see how Diwali unfolds in Udupi. The Merchants' association of Udupi has launched a "Shop Local" campaign and Udupi eSamudaay Digital Services Pvt Ltd has pledged our full support to the initiative. Of course, Diwali in Amazon, Flipkart, DMart etc means sweets from factories and other things from China. Thats what Indian consumers seem to want. Right?

The Soan Papdi one used to have four decades ago is sorely missed. Thanks to the factory production, what is sold under this name, tastes nothing like what it was once upon a time. This how food indigenous to specific regions virtually got destroyed via centralisation and mass production. Big brands removed all the authenticity and mass-produced them for one reason - profits! And, in doing so, they killed local enterprise who were left with only the local markets. "Sawdust with Sugar" is how a friend described the Soan Papdi on eCommerce platforms. Just as the Dharwad Peda tastes like clay mixed with jaggery! How did we end up "DESTROYING" delicacies of specific regions of our country? Soan Papdi is considered a dish of Persian origin though some of my friends from Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan claim this is wrong and that they forefathers were the ones who originally created it. Make no mistake! There are authentic stores in our hinterland selling good quality products that will get a nation-wide exposure under the #decentralized #digital model. Kudos to #Udupi for taking up cudgels on behalf of local enterprise against those who destroy authenticity in the name of lower margins - and then offer "buy one-get one free" during festivals like Deepavali. This is a timely reminder that as part of India's #VocalforLocal campaign, local enterprise needs to be supported and their authenticity protected against mass production of local innovation - because they use the local brand and destroy its authenticity - for earning a few rupees more! #Diwali #SupportLocalBusiness

Pre Advise, That Too On Working Hours, Else Not Accepted.. DSRs Were Maintained Accordingly For Shipments Esp Under Clearnce During Deepawali.. That Time Understanding Was Alike, Customers Also Kept Containers On Movement Hold, If Same Was Not Cleared Within Specified Time-Lines.. For Exp, A Major Exporter Of Dyes Handled From My End, Used To Call Us, "Anvay Bhai, Should We Handover, Container or Not, As This May Create Problem To you".. :) During This Decade Of 21st Century, Due To Onboarding Of Online Portals, We Have A Sort Of Ease Of Access In Handling Ops..
