The latest (2023) Give.org Donor Trust Special Report unveils insights on charity trust and accountability derived from a survey of over 3,100 adults in the US and Canada. Key findings reveal that while 70% of participants prioritize trust before donating, only 20% have high trust in charities. In December 2022, veterans organizations (27.9%) and not-for-profit hospitals (27.1%) surpassed religious organizations as the most trusted category for the first time. Following closely were religious organizations (26.1%), animal welfare (25.9%), and social service charities (24.9%). The report highlights the top factors signaling charity trustworthiness: 1) accomplishments shared by the organization; 2) third-party evaluation by an independent entity; 3) name recognition; 4) financial ratios (a top choice for wealthier donors); 5) passion and sincerity in the appeal. #Charity #Trust #Accountability #GiveOrg #Survey #Insights

The results of our annual impact survey are in. We’ve found that, over the last year, there has been a surge in youth food insecurity as a result of the cost of living crisis. The survey also found that: 🍏 The number of charities seeing 18-25 year olds accessing food support has doubled in the last year 🍏 The cost of living crisis is forcing young people to seek support from local charities, which are under pressure 🍏 Almost half (43%) of charities we provide food to would likely have to close down without support from FareShare Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eiVmJmGQ

What charities are people most motivated to donate to? This year there has been a shift in the rankings. Children’s charities (46%) is the highest, maintaining a position in the top three since 2016. Mental health has ascended to second place (42%), entering the top three causes for the first time, with the proportion who are motivated to support this cause growing steadily from 29% in 2017 to 42% today. The reason donors might give can change depending on global and local events. For example, disaster response in Australia saw a large spike due to the 2019-2020 bushfires. We are seeing an increase in younger donors being less loyal to one charity, with cause being a key driver to engagement, more so than familiarity with the charity or brand legacy. In light of recent hurricanes, the IRS has issued a warning about charity scams targeting well-meaning donors. Scammers often pose as fake charities to exploit disaster situations. The IRS recommends verifying a charity’s status using the Tax Exempt Organization Search tool, avoiding requests for gift card donations, and refraining from sharing personal information. Only contributions to recognized tax-exempt organizations are deductible. #Hurricanes #CharityScams #TaxDeductions #IRS https://lnkd.in/eCz2QfF4

As we approach Thanksgiving, let’s remember the importance of sharing our blessings with those in need. The holiday season is a time for gratitude and generosity, and many families in our community are facing food insecurity. This year, consider supporting the Client Choice Food Pantry at Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri. Our pantry allows clients to select food that meets their needs and preferences, ensuring that they receive nutritious meals for their families. How You Can Help: Donate non-perishable food items: Canned goods, pasta, rice, and other staples are always needed. Consider a financial contribution: Your donation helps us purchase fresh produce and other essential items for families in need. Volunteer your time: Join us in serving our community by helping at the pantry. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that every family has a warm meal to enjoy this Thanksgiving. Let’s come together in gratitude and generosity! #Thanksgiving #GiveBack #ClientChoiceFoodPantry #CatholicCharities #EndHunger #CommunitySupport #GratitudeInAction

It's getting really difficult for charities now. Last year, our St Petrock's Christmas campaign had reached over £20,000 by this stage of the season. This year we have only just topped £5,000. Obviously people are still giving in other ways - by cheque (yes, really - we get lots of these this time of year), BACS and standing order. But that was true in other years too. What's changed? Has the cost of living crisis finally hit people's ability to be generous? Are people just worn out by all the hardship in our nation (compassion fatigue)? Or is it that more and more charities are resorting to Christmas campaigns in light of shrinking grants and government support, so generosity gets spread more thinly? Whichever it is, if our experience is typical, things are about to get much, much more difficult for those in need in our country. Some really significant, long-standing charities have already hit the buffers. Let's hope there is not a tidal wave of insolvencies coming... In the meantime, if you'd like to support #Exeter's local #homelessness charity, here's the link stpetrockschristmas.org.uk 😊
