I love advanced RAG from a theoretical and well-funded research perspective.
But what enterprises can afford a high accuracy LLM + completely maxed-out RAG context windows with repeated and ongoing all-you-can-eat prompting in a typical usage scenario by employees?
As an AI consultant who has worked on numerous RAG implementations, I can tell you from discussions with Fortune 500 companies, they are finding few use cases worth the pay-per-token model so far, even with reduced token costs via the "Moore's Law" of model tokenomics.
Much of this stems from poor implementations, poor understanding of model tokenomics, poor understanding of how LLM message arrays work (you have to send every previous message back to the LLM for every new prompt because it doesn't have memory), and CIOs being told to "just get something AI out there fast".
Just because AI is shiny and new doesn't mean ROI should be tossed out...

GraphRAG vs Baseline RAG 🔍
*Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) is a technique to improve LLM outputs using real-world information. This technique is an important part of most LLM-based tools and the majority of RAG approaches use vector similarity as the search technique, which we call Baseline RAG.
* GraphRAG uses knowledge graphs to provide substantial improvements in question-and-answer performance when reasoning about complex information.
