Just a few examples of why Oban is such a special place. From the food to the history, and especially, the whisky. Our home town has so much to offer travelers from far and wide, as a ferry port and as a destination in its own right. Take a look at this recent article from The Scottish Farmer to learn more. https://lnkd.in/ekANfXxr

Last autumn/spring, I was invited on Tim Wildman MW's final James Busby Travel trip, serendipitously coinciding with the announcement of 67 Pall Mall Melbourne! It was the experience of a lifetime, and I made an attempt to pass on a little of what I learned in our Members' newsletter. Thanks to Guy Woodward for the opportunity to proselytise. https://lnkd.in/gpzpGNZ5

🌊 The Islands Region Highlight 🌊 >> https://hubs.la/Q02CLqvW0 The Islands are an unofficial whisky-producing region off the coast of Scotland, including Arran, Jura, Mull, Orkney, and Skye—but not Islay. Although the Scotch whisky regulations consider them part of the Highlands, these islands have a unique whisky character all their own. Historically, the Islands were hotspots for illegal whisky making, thanks to their convenient locations for smuggling materials and finished products. 🌿 Character of Island Whiskies: • Highly varied in flavours due to their diverse locations • Generally smoky and peaty • Briny notes reflecting their coastal origins Explore the distinctive and varied whiskies of the Islands. 🥃

Let's revisit the renowned region of France. Bordeaux and it's tumultuous Gironde Estuary convergence of the two infamous rivers, Dordogne + Garonne creating a fork to The Atlantic Ocean. "If you have spent time in Bordeaux, France, or chatted with friends over a bottle that hails from the region, the inevitable conversation of Left Bank versus Right Bank wines will arise. Just to clear the air—this debate has nothing to do with cash flow or basketball (as in, bank shots), but everything to do with the river banks in Bordeaux, which correspond with different styles of wines. check the full story here." https://lnkd.in/efhMemDv

Over the last 50 years, #Languedoc has lost 50% of its vineyard area (from 434,672 ha in 1974 to 213,800 ha in 2022) - although the decline has slowed over the last 10 years. However, Languedoc's vineyard area is still twice as large as Germany's or 60% larger than Australia's.
