Liverpool City Region Sustainable Property Group’s Post

Following on from the success of our conference yesterday - "Building Sustainable Cities Beyond 2030", we are excited to share some key takeaways from each of the panels. Panel 1: Implementing National Policy to Deliver Sustainable Buildings & Placemaking – What’s Next for Net Zero? The opening panel, moderated by Andrew Colwell of Fleetsolve, explored how national policies are guiding regional efforts towards Net Zero. Key themes included ensuring affordable, sustainable housing and retrofitting existing properties. the discussion featured an impressive lineup of industry experts: James Johnson, Head of Regional Program - North West Net Zero Hub, Ian Stenton, Head of Estates Sustainability - NHS England, John Moffat, Managing Director - Capital&Centric & Centric, Nick Gosling, Chief Strategy Officer - Vital Energi Utilities Limited One major takeaway was the need for whole-life carbon assessment embedded in regulation to meet UK Net Zero standards. Another pressing challenge is closing the skills gap in construction, which is crucial for achieving sustainability goals. Collaboration between the public and private sectors was highlighted as essential for overcoming barriers. The panel also stressed the importance of a holistic approach to sustainability, balancing economic, social, and environmental well-being in community development. This session set the tone for the day’s discussions, making it clear that the journey to Net Zero is not just a construction challenge, but a community-wide effort. #NetZero #SustainableHousing #BuiltEnvironment #Collaboration #CarbonReduction #SkillsGap

What really encouraged me about this debate is just how far [already] both public and private sectors have gotten in terms of local and regional implementation - a real appetite to translate the policy words in to meaningful actions that are already making a difference - for both businesses and consumers [whether that be patients in hospitals or residents in communities]. Very positive and enthusiastic 👏
