As the person behind the scenes talking about how great other people are, I was taken aback by Jakob Wredstrøm asking *me* to be the expert on his show. We talked about how I started my journey in the music industry. Years have passed, and I've learned that to be in the industry isn't just about titles or clout, it's also about staying true to your purpose, a reason that most of us forget. During our conversation, we explored why having a clear and compelling "why" is crucial— it's a reminder of your purpose and the foundation of your mission. As I put it: "If you don't have a compelling why, there's something wrong. The 'why' is what you reflect back on during the hard days. It's the pillar that supports everything." I believe in having the why as the base of everything I do. The how can change, but having a why as an anchor gives the freedom to adapt and innovate. By staying true to our purpose, we can produce impact-led stories that will amplify voices in the industry.

As we approach the final weeks of the year, it’s a time to reflect on our goals and our growth—especially for those of us in creative fields like music. It’s easy to feel like our time is slipping away, but remember, every day brings a fresh chance to make progress. Let’s make the most of what we have left this year. What’s one small step we can take today to reach out to more people with our music, refine a skill, or bring a project closer to completion? Whether it’s putting a new track out, reaching out to a potential collaborator, or planning that upcoming performance, each action counts. Sometimes, it’s not about giant leaps but about steady, purposeful steps. Musicians, this is our time to share our work, connect with audiences, and leave our mark. We’ve got just a few weeks left—let’s make them count.

🚨 Pre-Sale Campaign Ends 4/19 🚨 Culture Catalyst is a book for fans of Simon Sinek’s “Start With Why.” I wrote it as the next step in the journey of your WHY (your purpose) and becoming intentional about HOW you want to go about doing that. Our culture is going to define the experience of doing the work. It is arguably just as important of having aligned purpose. One of the examples I use is that of musicians. Musicians are aligned on the purpose of creating music (their purpose). But what dictates the kind of music they play? The values, their taste, their personality. Organizational cultures are like the genre of music. You can get a really talented musician, like Taylor Swift or David Grohl. But, if you try to get them to play a genre of music they don’t align with, they could do it tactically but it’s not going to excite them, motivate them or engage them. Let’s make good music.
