Last Wednesday, our founder Jade had the pleasure of attending the AccelerateHer founder meet-up—a fantastic gathering of local female entrepreneurs. She had the opportunity to share her story, connect with other inspiring women, and discuss the unique challenges and triumphs of being a female founder. It was a powerful reminder of the strength and creativity within our community. Grateful for the support and collaboration that events like this foster. Here’s to lifting each other up and continuing to drive change together! AccelerateHER Elevator

I'm a female founder and proud of it. We don’t call men male founders, so why do women embrace the label female founder? Shouldn’t we all just be founders? And what about mumpreneur—is it empowering, or does it put us in a box? Here’s the thing: I’ve thought a lot about this, and I know it’s a big debate. But I LOVE being called a female founder. For me, it’s not just a label; it’s a badge of pride, a connection to a community of women breaking barriers, and a reminder of the unique challenges I’ve overcome. It drives me, inspires me, and makes me feel seen. I know not everyone agrees. Some women want to drop the qualifiers and just be known as founders. I get it, but that’s not my truth. And mumpreneur? As a mum of three, I’ve embraced that too. It reflects the juggling act of raising kids while building Mixala. Call me a female founder and I'll wear it as a badge of honour. #mum #mumpreneur #femalefounder7 #mumsbuildbusinesses

Elevating the position of women has been a mission of my career from the very start. As part of that commitment, I helped put on the YC Female Founder Conference last Friday, which brought together amazing female founders to tell their stories. It was a small venue, and during our keynote solo talk, a baby started making noise, and it was apparent that people across the room could hear the noise. Being a mom of young children myself, I approached the mom - asked if she needed anything, if I could hold the baby, and if she wanted to use spaces restricted to other guests where she could still hear the talk, including an outside deck or a conference room with glass doors. Sensing distress in her reaction, I suggested we talk during the break to avoid disturbing the keynote any further. We had a heart-to-heart; I shared with her my own journey of having a premature baby the same year I sold my company. I apologized for any misunderstanding, and she said she accepted and forgave me. She stayed for the entire conference - until the very end, and not once was she asked to leave by anyone, let alone myself. I didn’t want to jump into the fray because, as any female founder who’s ever worked with me knows, I don’t believe in publicly speaking out against other women. There are so many battles to be fought; why spend energy tearing one another down? We’re all on the same side. I will continue supporting female founders and moms at every opportunity, and nothing will change that.
