Supporting CEO's and Leadership teams to build successful inclusive businesses I Podcast Host - A Dog Called Diversity I

What are you doing that’s distracting from you having #ExecutivePresence, and being effective in your role? I was talking to a friend yesterday over lunch. They had started a new role, and I was asking them about how they wanted to be perceived as a leader in their new organisation. I started by asking, who are the leaders you admire, and what is it about them you specifically like? They told me about a couple of people, and what it was about them they admired. One person was because they were always able to ‘cut through’ and get to the heart of the issue, or problem. The other person was because they played a long game with the work they were implementing, and that sometimes it wasn’t apparent about why they were taking some actions versus others, but it became clear over time. I then asked my friend if this how they would like to be perceived? They said yes. But earlier they mentioned how they had been criticising people in the role before them, to other leaders in the business. Blaming the person for what was going wrong. So I asked, was doing this, congruent with how they wanted to be perceived? Criticising and blaming rather than working how to move forward. Of course, the answer was no.
