There is never “good time” .. but sometimes, the best thing we can do for ourselves and our families is to hit the pause button.
Last week, the fam and I took a last-minute holiday for some much-needed R&R.
My son's kindergarten teacher mentioned he was feeling unusually emotional. His reason? "I'm just so tired every day, Mummy. I feel like I need a break."
It was a wake-up call for me. Between a whirlwind year — elopement in April, a milestone birthday bash in July, and a HUGE year at Randstad driving partnerships in the health, aged care and not-for-profit sectors ... we hadn't prioritised family downtime. My son, wise beyond his years, was feeling the strain, and honestly, so was I.
We decided an urgent family getaway was non-negotiable. A few calendar shuffles and rescheduled appointments later, we were booked into a fantastic holiday park. A week of swimming, bike rides, board games, and lazy afternoons was just what the doctor ordered. It was incredible how much we ALL needed that reset.
My advice to all:
👉 Listen to your little ones … They often articulate what we adults try to downplay or ignore
👉 There's no "perfect" time for a break … Sometimes, you have to create it.
👉 Investing in rest and rejuvenation is not selfish, it's essential … It benefits not just us but also those around us.
I'm back, feeling refreshed and with a renewed focus on what truly matters!
Here's to making mental and physical well-being a priority, not just for ourselves but for our families too!
