As 2024 draws to a close, I’m reflecting on a year of #bold changes, #professional growth, and a renewed sense of purpose. This year, I stepped into a new chapter as the Delivery Lead for Pizza Hut #Canada. Moving to a new country in 2024 was a leap of faith, but it has been an immensely rewarding journey, teaching me #resilience, #adaptability, and the value of embracing new #challenges. While #professional growth has been a significant highlight, I’ve been reminded that our true impact extends beyond our #careers. As the year wraps up, I’ve turned my focus to a cause close to my heart: #fundraising for Anika, a 9-year-old girl with Down syndrome who urgently needs life-saving heart surgery for Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). Despite starting this effort only this week, we’ve already secured 27% of the funds, thanks to the generosity of many. A big shoutout to Milaap, whose seamless and user-friendly platform has made fundraising so accessible. Their dedication to empowering individuals to #support life-changing causes like Anika’s is truly commendable. Anika’s story is a powerful reminder of why giving back is so important. Raised by a single mother who has devoted her life to her care, Anika faces immense challenges every day. This #Christmas, I’m determined to help give her the greatest gift—a chance of life. Professional success is fulfilling, but true purpose lies in making a difference in the lives of others. As we #celebrate the festive season, I encourage us all to reflect on how we can use our resources and networks to uplift those in need. Whether through donations or simply sharing Anika’s story, every action counts. Let’s close 2024 with #gratitude, #purpose, and a shared #commitment to #kindness. Important message from our Founder and CEO Hello neighbors, First I wanted to say thank you for all your support in the past 7 years. You have helped F5 Project become one of the fastest-growing and most impactful non-profits in the Midwest. Along with the help of the Behavioral Health Department and the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, we were able to provide help to 30,000+ people all over ND and MN. Between Care Coordination, Peer Support, Housing, Employment Services, Mental Health, Youth Services, we are able to do something impactful on the ground level for those who struggle inside and outside of facilities that have been missing for a long time. Recently due to unforeseen events that happened, it will hit us hard financially. This will affect our impact and response to the community need for peer support and potentially more. The reason I am writing you today is to ask for your help and support our participants, employees and our communities. There is a variety of ways you can help which I will mention in a bit. But first I wanted to share my deepest gratitude and the vision that F5 Project is a community non-profit. The more you support us, the less we are dependent on government, grants, and anything else that can change at a moment's notice. The more supporters we have the more our need for any single source or sources. Thank you for always being here for us. Thank you for being our neighbors. Thank you for all that you do. The Atlas of variation in risk factors and healthcare for vision in England acknowledges that 'socioeconomic deprivation is both a cause and outcome of sight loss' We could help change that. How? In 2025 I will be taking part in the Out of the Box Optics Optoversity Challenge. I have been assigned as the captain of Aston University Optometry Year 1 & Year 2 students who will take part. As part of my role, I am working with Vision Care for Homeless People to fundraise for adequate eye care, for homeless people and those of low socioeconomic backgrounds. Your donations will help with basic eye checks and screening for ocular pathologies, as well as their treatment and management. As the new year approaches, many of us start reflecting on our goals—whether in business, personal growth, or physical challenges. Some decide to push their limits by taking on a marathon or half marathon. In 2024, I took on both challenges and managed to achieve personal bests in each. Unfortunately, the journey wasn’t without setbacks. I got injured and couldn’t run for six months. During that difficult time, I faced an even greater loss. My dad, Bernie, passed away from a little-known but profoundly challenging illness called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). PSP is a rare neurological condition that progressively impacts movement, balance, vision, speech, and swallowing. Its name reflects its nature: Progressive: It worsens over time. Supranuclear: It affects the brain areas controlling eye movement. Palsy: It causes muscle weakness. PSP is part of the Atypical Parkinsonian Disorders family and is often mistaken for Parkinson’s disease early on due to shared symptoms like balance issues and stiffness. However, PSP has unique characteristics such as early backward falls, a fixed gaze, and more pronounced rigidity. An early and accurate diagnosis is crucial for tailored support and symptom management. To honor my dad and raise awareness about this under-recognized condition, I plan to run the Stafford Half Marathon in March in support of the PSP Association (PSPA). The Tower Foundation is an initiative of my wife, Desiree and I. This is not a Non-Profit Charitable Organization or anything of the kind. Simply put, once a month, we provide 50 lunches for homeless people in the Lakeland, Fl area. This is to get it started. As a grassroots initiative our objective is to recruit 30 other individuals or businesses to do the same. In the end 20-50 lunches will be provided everyday, every month. Once recruited it is hopeful to have everyone that participates to then recruit 30 new people or businesses to do the same. There aren't any watchdogs, scoresheets or monitoring. Everyone's Goodwill is on their honor. Here is what you can do. Once a month go to the grocery store and purchase 3-6 loaves of slice bread; 20-50 slices of cheese' 40-100 slices of cooked ham, turkey or roast beef; 2 heads of lettuce; 1 container of butter or margarine; 20-50 bottles of water and 20-50 snacks ie apple, banana, box of raisins, etc. Also purchase 20-50 sandwich bags and 20-25 paper bags. This should cost approximately $50-$75. Everything that you purchase goes directly to the needy. There isn't any overhead or administration. You can easily find homeless in any community. Start in the area of a hostel where in the early morning hours homeless people who have been provided with a bed for the night must be out in the morning. Many stay in the general vicinity during the day so that they can secure a bed for the next night. The first time we did this, it took less than 15 minutes to distribute 50 lunches. To those who sent congratulations thank you but this is not a career move or new job. This is a preoccupation to help people who really need help. The payback for your generosity is immediate. Destitute and hungry these people are grateful and will praise you with happiness and appreciation amid their starvation.
