THIS IS A CITY PARK TO END ALL CITY PARKS
A nice, paved pathway meanders over the sandy desert, makes a couple of bends, and leads to the overlook at the city park.
It would be a tough call to choose whether Horseshoe Bend City Park in Page, Arizona, or Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado, are the most scenic city parks in the U.S.
In Arizona, some municipalities make city parks a big deal. Scottsdale owns the largest municipal park in the world, Phoenix has the second, third, and fifth largest, and Houston has the fourth largest.
For Page, Horseshoe Bend Park is as large as the desert preserves in Phoenix and Scottsdale, but it is surely the most impressive city park in Arizona and possibly the entire country. Garden of the Gods is stunning; Horseshoe Bend is breathtaking.
The scene unfolding wider than eyes can take in a single glance is where the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area meets a Page City park.
Page replaced the old dirt parking area and soft sandy trails with an enlarged paved parking area, shaded picnicking, and a paved accessible pathway to the overlook. The city charges $10 per passenger vehicle.
It is still possible to leave the paving behind and wander across the natural terrain to get interesting views. Horseshoe Bend is one of the most photogenic vistas in the American Southwest. In fact, it probably ranks as one of the top symbols of the American West.
