📢 I was excited to attend the the second international Cardio-Oncology Conference November 8-9 in Cincinatti 🇺🇸with survivors of cancer, professionals, and researchers. We heard inspiring presentations from f.e. survivors Peter Wolf Ania Buchacz and an excellent presentation about the transition guideline from Jikke Wams, our PhD student for the European project #EUCAYASNet. 🇪🇺 With advancing therapies and longer survival rates, it’s essential that we address the heart health of (former) cancer patients before, during, and after treatment.♥️ ✨ My Key Takeaways: * Unfortunately cardiotoxicity due to cancer treatment could be a serious problem for survivors. * International guidelines are the cornerstone of optimal cardio-oncology care. * Transition and personalized care plans are needed to ensure survivorship care after treatment for childhood cancer. * Collaborative International Research: Researchers are increasingly collaborating across fields to drive breakthroughs in both cardiology and oncology, promoting integrated patient care. 💪 Let’s continue to improve care for these patients! #CardioOncology #childhoodcancer #cincy_cardio_onc Prinses Máxima Centrum voor Kinderoncologie, PanCare, Jikke Wams Dorus Kouwenberg, Childhood Cancer International - Europe, Youth Cancer Europe , Sofia's Hope, Inc. Meet Tara Anderson. She is one of four NIPANC supported PhD research students we are partnering with in collaboration with Queen's University Belfast. Their work helps us get a better understanding of #PancreaticCancer; how it impacts individuals and families in NI and provides insight into how we can continuously improve services and support for those impacted. The title of Tara’s PhD 'Exploring the Supportive Care Needs of Families Affected by Pancreatic Cancer: A Mixed-Methods Study' puts quality of life at the heart of Tara’s work, and she is asking for your support. She explained: “I am conducting a survey to gather information about the needs of those supporting someone with a pancreatic cancer diagnosis as well as the psychological impact that a loved one’s diagnosis may have. There could not be a better time to launch it than during NIPANC’s November #TimeMatters campaign during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month #PCAM.” This survey is open to everyone, aged 18+, who has a family member currently living with a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. This study has received ethical approval from the Faculty of Medicine, Health, and Life Sciences, QUB (Ref: MHLS 24_137) If you would like to participate, please follow this link to access the survey: https://lnkd.in/ehKgg5G2 Find out more about her important work here: https://lnkd.in/eiNmVaZn

Key Milestones of the STREXIT2 Project in 2024 As the year draws to a close, we are proud to reflect on the progress achieved in the STREXIT2 project: Patient recruitment has officially begun, marking a critical milestone in the project. Currently, we are operating across 20 clinical sites in 10 countries, allowing for robust and diverse data collection. An educational video was produced to deepen understanding of clinical studies in cancer research. It highlights the role of real-world evidence in STREXIT2 and underscores the importance of international collaboration in this multi-national European effort. Watch the video here: https://lnkd.in/d9vxyJTN The STREXIT2 project was represented at multiple scientific conferences, including the Horizon Europe Cancer Mission's ‘Diagnosis and Treatment’ cluster meeting in Barcelona. These platforms provided opportunities to exchange insights, address shared challenges, and foster collaborations. 2024 has been a year of progress, learning, and strengthened partnerships. We would like to thank all collaborators and stakeholders and look forward to continuing this impactful journey in 2025. #CancerResearch #STREXIT2 #EORTC #RetroperitonealSarcomas #MissionOnCancer #2024recap #STREXIT2_Horizon #HorizonEurope #EUCancerMission #SARCOMA #CancerResearch #ClinicalTrials #Cancer #RetroperitonealSarcoma #SoftTissueSarcoma European Commission EORTC - European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer

Earlier this year, the NCI Center for Cancer Health Equity (CCHE) established a new team of cancer researchers named the #CancerEquityLeaders. These individuals will come together under National Cancer Institute (NCI) leadership to advance health equity efforts in cancer care. “We wanted to initially focus our efforts on minority-serving institutions, which represent a rich resource of trainees, faculty, patients, and communities of need,” noted Sanya Springfield, PhD, Director of the NCI CCHE. “However, we made an observation on the other end of the professional ladder—the increase in diversity of our academic leaders and cancer center directors. We wanted to harness their collective expertise and acknowledge this positive moment in history.” The NCI recently revealed the three main objectives of the new group: 1. Assess the landscape to elucidate critical strengths and gaps in cancer equity infrastructure. 2. Prioritize the critical needs for expanding institutional capacity and achieving cancer health equity. 3. Develop a strategic agenda to enhance the #NationalCancerPlan.
