#Jobs #recentgrads #classof2024 And so it begins. If you are looking for work in the fields of Emergency Management, Social Work, or Public Health, keep an eye out for consultant opportunities. It is much faster for most government agencies to hire consultants/contractors to provide the surge forces needed following a major disaster. The magnitude of these disasters (Helene and Milton) will likely mean a decently long contract of a year or more. FEMA is constantly hiring for recovery and resilience specialist positions across the country so getting contractor experience may put you in an office with FEMA employees and open up the door to a permanent federal job with a pension and full benefits package. Use LinkedIn jobs to set an alert for jobs with disaster recovery in the title and follow the linked in pages of temp agencies and disaster contractor companies to find positions as they are opened (temporarily change your notifications setting to “all posts” by clicking the bell at the top of a companies LinkedIn page to bring all their posts to your feed).
#Helene has wreaked havoc across the southeastern U.S. - and now #Milton is right on its heels. Communities are counting on us more than ever, and you can make a difference! Join the frontlines and help rebuild lives in the wake of these powerful storms. We have immediate openings for dedicated people to be part of the massive response and recovery efforts. If you are qualified for more than one role - apply to our general "Emergency Management Cadre" post for consideration across multiple roles! #DisasterRelief #Recovery #Response #MakeAnImpact #EmergencyManagement #TeamACDC #Hiring https://lnkd.in/gvfPNMX

The US Senate is considering grants totalling $134 million for critical infrastructure upgrades to public safety communications systems. The Tri-State area, covering Arizona's Mohave County, southern Nevada's Clark County, and eastern California's San Bernardino County, is applying for a grant to upgrade their 911 communications systems. This effort has the full support of Arizona Fire Chiefs, Police Chiefs, the Mohave County Board of Supervisors and Elevation Gold. As a rural region with challenging terrain, effective communication is vital for their first responders' safety and efficiency. San Bernardino is the largest county in the US by area, and Mohave County is the fifth largest, making the need for reliable 911 systems even more critical. Our current system is outdated, and it's unfair to expect first responders to risk their lives without proper communication support. At Elevation Gold, we understand the importance of robust communication systems, especially from our experience in #mining. We fully support the Tri-State Fire Chiefs and Police Chiefs in their request for funding a new 911 system to ensure the safety and security of our communities. In the picture below you can see Joe Bardswich from Elevation, with Fort Mojave Mesa Fire Department members. If you'd like to support their efforts, email us at info@elvtgold.com and we'll gladly connect you! #CommunitySafety #FirstResponders #PublicSafety #Arizona #MohaveCounty #Nevada #ClarkCounty #California #SanBernardinoCounty

In the aftermath of the Grenfell tragedy, new regulations mean that for high-rise and other multi-occupancy residential buildings, clear and current information that can aid life-saving efforts must be housed within a Secure Information Box (SIB) that adheres to stringent specifications, and which is easily accessible in an emergency. But what does ‘easily accessible’ mean? Ask any fire officer and they’ll tell you that it needs to be in the most logical and obvious location for the fire brigade when they attend. And that is often at the main entrance door. Guidance says: • It should be in a clear unobstructed area accessible for Fire & Rescue Services; • It should be in close proximity to other systems or equipment that may be used e.g. rising main inlets etc; • It can be located internally or externally but in a well-lit area; • If located internally in a room, then it must have 24/7 staffing to provide quick and easy access for the Fire Services with directional signage to highlight its exact location. All pretty logical. But if you want to know more… https://lnkd.in/eFZdft7E Made in Britain - official Business News Wales Manufacturing Wales Secured by Design NBS #firesafety #ukhousing #londonhousing #manchesterhousing #socialhousing #sib #housingassociations #carehomesuk #hrrb #highrisebuildings #highriskbuildings

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐦 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧? Since the 1970’s, the Moncton Fire Department must have a minimum of 21 members on duty each day, distributed as shown in the graphic below. If there are any additional reliever firefighters, they will join the crews as “extras.”In 2023, for 276 days (76% of the year), your fire department operated at this bare minimum level, unchanged for over 50 years. For 12% of the year, there was only 1 firefighter above the minimum. These staffing levels create significant challenges and stress on the department’s resources during emergencies.Despite having multiple apparatus and equipment per station, only one crew is assigned per station. This means that in non-hydrant districts, the crews of 4 at stations 1 and 5 must split up and manage two trucks at that fire. When the 5th station opened in 1998, no new positions were created. Instead, multiple one- to two-firefighter trucks were combined and moved to Hildegard’s new station. With an 87% increase in population and a 579% increase in emergencies, your awareness is crucial and we thank you once again for the support and concern you have expressed. It’s time to make your voice heard! #TheMoreYouKnow #MonctonFFs

It can happen anywhere and anytime
Worker trapped under rubble after construction accident in Louisville Firefighters in Kentucky’s largest city were working to rescue a person trapped under rubble Thursday at a construction site near the city’s downtown. Louisville Fire officials say a construction worker fell into a void and some debris fell on top of him just before noon on Thursday. The worker is speaking with rescuers but can’t move, Louisville Fire Chief Brian O’Neill said. The worker is about 10 to 12 feet (3 to 3.7 meters) below ground, O’Neill said. There were six other workers at the scene when the man fell. They were working at the site of a former corrections building that is being demolished to make way for a medical campus. O’Neill said firefighters were on the scene within three minutes and began conducting a trench rescue. Workers will try to clear debris from around the man’s arms and chest so he can be given medical aid, the chief said. The rescue could take hours, O’Neill said. “This a very, very slow process,” he said. Source: https://lnkd.in/gqv9KsUG #ThinkInsideTheBox #TrenchSafety #ExcavateSafe #TrenchCollapse #TrenchRescue

In the early hours of July 13, 2024, a major fire broke out at an apartment building under construction in Seattle's Columbia City neighborhood. This incident, which required the response of over 70 firefighters, highlighted several lessons for construction fire safety and community risk reduction. Key Takeaways: Site Security: Security measures like surveillance cameras and regular patrols can deter unauthorized access and potential arson. Proper fencing and access control systems are essential. Fire Prevention: Implementing fire watch programs, especially during off-hours, is important. Maintaining clear pathways for emergency responders and ensuring all fire safety equipment is readily accessible can make a significant difference. Community Collaboration: Engaging with local fire departments and stakeholders to develop comprehensive fire safety plans tailored to specific sites and neighborhood can greatly enhance safety. The fire at this construction site not only caused significant property damage but also delayed a project aimed at supporting underprivileged children. This incident underscores the broader impact of construction fires on our communities. #FireSafety #ConstructionSafety #CommunityRiskReduction #FirePrevention #SiteSecurity #SeattleFire #SafetyFirst #FireMarshal Check out my blog post https://wix.to/LxcPtr5 #newblogpost
