I spoke at SOCAP - #impactinvesting conference in #SanFrancisco this year, sharing the story of the research I have just finished on womxn leading systems change and ecosystems in the middle of the country. The truth is I had a two week turnaround to get the speech written and learn the whole thing off by heart - 7 mins on stage, no notes, minimal slides. It is harder than you think. In fact it was terrifying! This came at a week when I found out some super bad news about my family. The combination of both of these things meant that I was really a ball of anxiety the whole week leading up to it, and I hardly slept as I flew across the country to deliver it, just before Halloween. But before I stepped on stage, I was stressing in the wings, I stopped myself and thought about the stories I was carrying with me from the womxn I had interviewed. I thought this doesnt have to be about me and my performance. Take a breath, do your best and tell that flipping story! I became excited to share this with the world. It is an important story to tell about #othering, #bridging, #perception, #reality, #brilliance and ultimately, its boost of #inspiration when the world really feels like it needs one. Plus this important message that I want to shout from the rooftops: “We are in the process of building the field of #systemschange… and now building the field of #systemicinvesting. As we fix those concepts, as evaluation frameworks take hold, we must be careful of the unintended consequences for the people that we leave behind, if we don’t include them in the conversation.” Of course I missed a few bits and forgot my clicker and it wasn’t perfect. But given all the things going on, I am very proud of myself. You can watch my speech here: https://lnkd.in/gA5UYVJv Here is an article about all the #systemschange speakers SOCAP Global article 12 Real-World Examples of Systems Change in Action, a compellation of systems change speakers at the conference. The project takes place currently in over 10 countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, France, Spain, Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Italy, Greece, and Cyprus. By empowering citizens and promoting inclusive political solutions, the project aims to enhance democratic engagement and counteract populist responses to issues like migration. #community #citizenscience #communitydevelopment #europe
Our project aims to create a European citizen sensor network to collect real-life data and micro-narratives from citizens across Europe. This initiative seeks also to understand and counter societal polarisation by using the SenseMakerⓇ software of The Cynefin Company to gather and analyse both qualitative and quantitative data. Citizen scientists from the Volt Europa community and external organisations will collect narratives and perform collective sense making sessions to arrive at practical solutions from local to European political level. The project ensures ethical handling of personal data, with no sensitive data collected or stored, and participant control over data use. The project team has profound expertise in citizen engagement and research and will leverage new democratic tools to promote citizen empowerment. Expected benefits include a deeper understanding of societal polarisation, innovative policy tools for politicians, and increased citizen trust in politics. What's one of your favourite career history moments? "The CRAY X-MP 2.2 ‘Marsik’ - When acquired in 1986, the CRAY Research supercomputer was the most powerful computer in Australia. It brought the Defence Signals Directorate (DSD) into a new era." This is the same year I joined the Australian Army 🇦🇺 and served in the Signals Corp. 'Into a new era' is a key phrase because it is where I began my love of technology which continues today in this new era of digital and AI! I'm feeling pretty cool 😎 😄 about this bit of history and experiencing our evolution, specially being involved in the human-tech conversation. A great overview of regulation and how it drowns our economy and innovation. This is worth the time investment, unless you run the woke media organization in Australia.
