West Point military academy drops 'Duty, Honor, Country' from mission statement Our responsibility to produce leaders to fight and win our nation's wars requires us to assess ourselves regularly." Superintendent Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland Steve Gilland https://lnkd.in/gFKCAQAG Duty, Honor, Country defines the underlying purpose of the what, how and for whom of the USMA. If not, why then the #USMA? There are several much less expensive alternatives, LTG; namely ROTC. Curricular adjustments can be made. The definition of #duty is a moral or legal obligation; a responsibility. The definition of #honor is high respect; esteem. #Country indicates that the primary duty of soldiers is to serve and protect the nation. A core component of mission. Duty, Honor, Country More than a motto. A core component of mission. The USMA's raison d'etre. But that is only part of the story. There is more. Who: cadets (in whom) How: Building capacity to lead When: four-year leader development program Where: West Point, NY Why: contribute to the country's defense Put it all together and what do we have? A bonafide mission. The mission of the United States Military Academy is to build within cadets throughout a four-year, continuously assessed, leader development program at West Point, NY, the capacity to lead others with honor, as a duty to contribute to the defense of the United States of America. Twas thus, and evermore. No change or wordsmithing required. Don't change that which is not broken. #westpoint #military #defense #unitedstatesofamerica #usarmy #usa

The Veteran Leaders Forum launched in 2023 when a few Houston area veterans wanted to see their lives transformed through purposeful relationship building. Our mission is to foster personal and professional growth among military veteran leaders in our community. Since inception, the Forum has carried out this mission in three instinctive ways: 1. Bringing veteran leaders to the table. Our most meaningful conversations with each other about community, family, and career have often taken place while breaking bread together. 2. Giving back to relevant causes. Most recently, we hosted DeliverFund to learn about and support the war against human trafficking that's being waged in our backyards. 3. Creating a peer-led support network. The magic happens when our members meet in their small groups. The conversations revolve around relevant topics where each member draws from their experiences to add value to the group. If this mission inspires you, check out veteranleadersforum.org to learn more! #veterans #leadership #army #navy #airforce #coastguard #marinecorps #armedforces #military #business

Today, we take a moment to honor and express our deepest gratitude to all those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. We also recognize the sacrifices made by them and their families and the unique challenges faced by military youth, who often deal with frequent relocations and separations. Mentoring can play a crucial role in providing these young people with the support and stability they need during transitions. White busses. Military families know all too well what those mean… White busses have 2 very significant meanings in the military community: Deployment & Homecoming Any time I’m driving on a military installation, my stomach flips when I see a convoy of white busses. Someone’s either saying “goodbye” or welcoming someone home. If you’re part of the military community, you know the roll of emotions that come with seeing white busses. As you watch the news, remember people like the ones in this photo. There are *hundreds of thousands* of military personnel currently deployed. And if you’ve been watching the news, you’ll know many of those folks are in some pretty hostile, tension-filled, very uncomfortable environments. Remember Everyone Deployed every day. Consider the sacrifice they’re making as they spend months away from their families - time they’ll never be able to get back. Let’s talk about those families more often. Let’s hold them in support more often. Let’s come together more often to ensure they know they’re seen. 📸 Marines holding on tight to Operation Gratitude Battalion Buddies as they prepare to gift them to their little ones & say “Goodbye”. These bears were hand-filled & assembled with a lot of love by grateful folks from all across the nation! #operationgratitude #military #usmc #marines #marinecorps #militaryfamilies #monthofthemilitarychild #nonprofit #volunteer
