Everything about Bill Walton was different. He was so radically himself, he inspired others to be themselves. The loss of Bill Walton at 71 is devastating. We met at an executive NetSuite event in San Diego, where we both we're speaking on 8/24/2017. And magically became friends. Bill was a legendary mentor, teacher, friend and philosopher king. To me. And millions. The Bill you saw and heard on TV, was Bill. Only the Bill in person was so much more. And, Bill LOVED category design/play bigger. We're going to re-issue the classic Bill podcast episode, with some new Bill stories from me on the front end, soon on Follow Your Different. But right now. I feel concussed. God Bless Bill Walton, -Christopher

After listening to two of my modern favorite podcasters (Chris Williamson and Daniel Senra). They came up with a list of what makes someone great and I'm fascinated by great people. The list: 1. Excellence is the capacity to take pain 2. Problems are just opportunities in work clothes 3. There are ideas worth billions in a $30 history book 4. Relationships RUN the world 5. You can always understand the son by the story of his father. The story of the father is embedded in the son. 6. Actions express priority 7. Bad boys move in silence 8. Belief comes before ability 9. By endurance we conquer 10. If you know your business from A - Z, there is no problem you can't solve 11. The public praises people for what they practice in private 12. Self pity has no utility 13. The good ones know more 14. Money comes naturally as a result of service 15. If you love what you do the only exit strategy is death Power podcast episode on Modern Wisdom. Take a moment to hear two who study the greats and speak to individuals. I love to listen/watch these high performing individuals to help me shoot for the moon and at least land among the stars. This is my north star in my career and showing up day to day. Some favorites I look to: Jesus of Nazareth, Marcus Aurelius, Martin Luther King Jr., and many more. I live to be as great as these men. Who are those you look up to? #leaders

What do you call it when you have someone as your coach and you get to coach them? Magic. That's exactly what happened during my 2-year Monday morning rhythm with Machen MacDonald. We've been meeting weekly, taking turns coaching each other, and creating something truly special. In our latest podcast episode, Machen shares his brilliantly simple IMAGE framework: Intention setting Magic awareness Affirmations Gratitude practice Expansion The biggest surprise? His take on ego tantrums. Instead of fighting them, he suggests giving them air - like talking to a 7-year-old who needs to be heard. This completely changed how I handle my own inner critic. We also broke down why most CEOs check their email 30 times a day (yikes!) and how to break free from that pattern. I shared my own story of limiting email checks to once daily at 4pm - it was scary at first but transformed my productivity. My favorite moment was when Machen explained why "grinding" should be replaced with "sculpting" - removing what doesn't serve us instead of pushing harder. The episode ends with a fun challenge: Watch for a lime green car today. Let me know when you spot one! It proves an important point about attention and awareness that could change your business. What's your take on ego tantrums in business? How do you handle yours?

From Beyond the Book podcast episode description: "The courtroom was cold, and my feet echoed on the slick stone floors as we made our way to our seats. My future, my identity, my reputation—all hung in the balance. The events of the last two years had rocked my entire world. My marriage had fallen apart, my finances had taken a severe hit, my practice helping people in my community suffering from chronic pain had been taken away from me, and all...for what?" Following the release of Mindset Matters with Jack Canfield Companies, Dr. Gary joined us on the podcast to discuss his take on how mindset in business makes a tangible impact as well as his chapter in the book. Dr. Gary's chapter entitled "The Wobbly Ladder" shares his personal and professional experiences that led him to achieving success by choosing his mindset and outlook each step of the way. Winning and Losing: Musings on Failure There’s nothing like attending a political convention with contested races to inspire one to reflect on victory and defeat. The most recent podcast episode is the product of my experience serving as a delegate to the Indiana Republican Convention. Winning rarely elicits reflection or change in a person. It’s the failure that is valuable to our growth. Whether it’s a political, professional, or personal loss, here are three takeaways when experiencing failure. *The win can be in the loss: Hindsight often shows you were actually being set up for something better in the future. *Separate from the outcome: You are not your losses - or your wins. Your worth is inherent. *Get back up: Lick your wounds, evaluate, and continue. If you’re not failing, you’re likely playing too small. How about taking one step today that gets you closer to where you want to be? The Political Doula Podcast

Have you ever had one of those moments where you receive seriously heightened clarity? Things that have been murky or confusing or feeling 'out of reach' before have just landed and you've known what to do? Kay Peacey explains this moment beautifully here in this clip from the latest episode of The Aggressive Growth Podcast. When the information you need to receive lands and you have no idea why you couldn't see it before, but now you can. And now you know what to do. Can you relate? Facilitating these moments is literally the purpose of Black & Blue . As the founder, the entrepreneur, it's almost impossible to know how to get yourself out of a place of feeling stuck, unable to grow at the rates that were previously possible or you believed you could do. If you're not where you want to be, you feel like you're stuck in the weeds, wading through treacle, bringing in someone else who is not, to take the true 30,000ft view is critical. Not only smart and cost-effective. All too often we forget the cost of spinning wheels. The wasted time. The missed opportunities. The pain. The stress. The literal physical cost of repeated actions. One can't find the truth without stepping back. We're looking for 3 CEOs or founders through April who want to find the truth in their business, about the problems that are keeping them stuck, that are meaning they're not growing at the rate they want to grow at. The result of finding said truth is freedom, is growth, is moving forwards. If you're happy spinning wheels and being stuck, it's best not to reach out to us. But if you're not, you're sick of it and you want to make progress quickly, come say hey. We can change your life. PS - catch the full episode of the show here > https://lnkd.in/eFHe_U-F

Sunk Cost Fallacy Strategic Cognitive Biases on Sundays, part 21 You may have heard of the Sunk cost fallacy. If you've spent a lot of time and money on a project, a product, or a business idea, it is very hard to stop developing or working on it. “I’ve invested so much in this idea, I can’t just up and quit this!” But there is a phenomenon that reinforces the Sunk cost fallacy. Dr. Byron L. Ernest, in his blog Byron's Babbles, called it "Investments in Managerial Ego.” If a manager admits their idea wasn't great, their ego suffers. Since they have some power in the company, they often continue this activity even when substantial evidence indicates that the company should stop moving in that direction. I would add that investments in managerial ego are directly proportional to a manager's position. The investments in the ego of a CEO or a business owner are always the highest.
