Hello Leadership Ashtabula County Community!
First, I'd like to thank you all for your help and support of Leadership throughout the years. This organization is truly needed in our community to help develop both our adults and youth to step up and take charge in many different ways throughout Ashtabula. As board members, you are helping to grow our county.
I'm reaching out to you all with the news that, after much consideration, I'm stepping down as Executive Director for Leadership Ashtabula County by the end of the year. This was a choice not made lightly, as I love the mission of Leadership Ashtabula County and seeing firsthand the impact it's had on so many individuals and organizations. I fully intend to volunteer as much as I can to help continue the mission of Leadership.
I'm accepting a position with the City of Ashtabula, where I hope to continue to grow Ashtabula and impact the community. This decision was made for personal reasons, and I truly value the opportunity to learn and the connections and friendships I've made over my time with Leadership. Throughout my time here, I've met, and continue to meet, many amazing individuals who have inspired me and helped me to become a better leader while sharing what we can do collectively as a group. It's been a privilege to witness the many friendships and relationships that have formed throughout the years, and I know they will continue to happen.
If you have any questions about this and its impact on our programs, please don't hesitate to contact me. We're still full-steam ahead with our 2024 Holiday Lunch with Leaders, our programming, and our Annual Fundraising Event - Mardi Gras Masquerade! in February!
Would you like to be LEADERship Ashtabula County's next Executive Director?
Go to www.leadershipac.org, read the job description, and send us your resume!
Hi, for those of you who may not know me, I'm Kelly Jones with Leadership Ashtabula County and we're recording this video today so that I can share with our Leadership Asheville County community. My intention is to step down as Executive Director by the end of the year for 2024. This was not a decision that was made lightly. I absolutely love working for leadership and the impact I see made every day with our local leaders within our community. I believe in the mission of Leadership Ashtabula County. And I've been honored to serve as as Executive director and helping see the impact that this program has made on youth and adult throughout these last few years. I fully intend to continue on volunteering and helping deliver the mission of Leadership Ashtabula County every day. While this transition was made for personal reasons, I'm looking forward to continue to serve our Ashtabula County community within a new role with the City of Ashtabula. So what does this mean for the future of Leadership Ashtabula County? It is because of the hundreds of volunteers. That we interact with on an annual basis, people that give their time, talent and resources. They are what makes the heart of leadership Ashtabula County great. And I know within this transition, Beth Cybulski, our board of directors, will continue to make this transition seamless for our adult and youth participants and for those organizations that we collaborate with on so many different initiatives in our community. We've gone through a lot these last few years with so many wonderful programs and outreach opportunities. I've truly enjoyed learning and meeting with new leaders, finding out what's happening with everything from our agricultural industry, manufacturing our history, and connecting individuals and organizations to help our community grow, and I know that won't change. We are in a good place within Leadership Asheville County to make some big impacts within our growth and our development with the Board of directors and our board president, we are executing a search for the next executive director. Do you think you have what it takes to be the next Executive Director of Leadership Ashtabula County? We know with the people we have in place, the volunteers, the organizations and companies that continue to open their door, support our programs. It's a wonderful opportunity to continue to highlight to our youth and our adult what resources we have in our county. If you're interested in applying, I encourage you to send your application over. Look at our job description. e-mail it to info@leadershippac.org. Have reached out to so many different people already, but if you have any questions about this transition and what it looks like for leadership, I encourage you please reach out to me directly. As you can see, we have our contact information along with this post. But I know that it is change and change can be scary at times, but I have the utmost confidence in our organization for the next transition. Throughout my time here at Leadership, I've met so many amazing individuals and leaders that have inspired me to become a better leader. And have inspired me to continue to impact our community. Thank you for giving me that inspiration and knowing that you will continue to inspire future leaders, not just within Leadership Ashtabula, but within Ashtabula County.
Kelli,
I can’t begin to say how thankful I am for your leadership of LAC! I’ve been beyond impressed with all of the hard work and positivity you brought to your role. On behalf of myself and GHS we greatly appreciate all of the opportunities you have worked so hard to offer our students! Best wishes on your new adventure!
Michael
“I’m a servant leader - as long as the position comes with a strong compensation and benefits package”
Unfortunately that's probably a good description of my approach to leadership in my younger years. Does this describe you or someone you know? Reading the books, learning leadership skills, gaining followers, trying to knock out some wins for the company. All supporting the primary goal of the next raise, the next promotion – more “Lands and titles”.
Or, is your leadership journey about learning how to better lift others up, help those in your care succeed, and generally make the world a better place? I know which type of leader I would rather follow.
The world is in desperate need of leadership. And I’m not referring to the kind of ‘someone should do something’ complaining about our politicians and corporate execs we are so used to. This is about you putting your leadership skills to work in your community without any financial return.
Servant leadership in practice.
There are volunteer organizations all across the country in need of help. Some are thriving, but many are just barely scraping by. They are generally staffed by a small group of incredibly dedicated behind-the-scenes workers putting in countless unseen hours in pursuit of their mission.
I haven’t mentioned it on here, but last year I took over as Regional Commissioner for our local AYSO youth soccer organization that was in serious need of help. Had I not, the organization likely would have folded like many of the other local branches. Youth soccer made a huge impact on me as a kid and I couldn’t let that happen. I dove in with a simple plan – practice extreme ownership, thank volunteers continuously, and take care of my board members. The board members will take care of the coaches, and the coaches will take care of the players.
We’ve been blessed with filling out a fantastic board of dedicated volunteers. We’re in our second season now, and enrollment has jumped from 200 in the fall to over 300 this spring. It’s a great feeling seeing hundreds of kids out every Saturday being poured into by dedicated coaches and having a great time playing soccer. The feedback we’ve gotten from coaches and parents is awesome and I’m thrilled to be a little part of this organization’s revival.
There’s an organization out there somewhere that needs your leadership.
Learn it, Live it, Share it!

What does it take to heal a broken society?
All those working to create a more just world will benefit from reading this short article by Shawn Ginwright, a leading educator, scholar, activist, and author at Harvard Graduate School of Education. So many well-intentioned people have worked tirelessly to reduce structural impediments and barriers to fairness. These efforts are important, but insufficient when it comes to addressing the root causes of our deep-seated inequities. Thank you for sharing this valuable perspective on the inner work needed to achieve genuine healing and lasting change on a collective level.
"Our current approach to social change leadership is broken. We focus on finding solutions without addressing the deeper issues of trauma and inequality. Healing Centered Engagement prioritizes empathy, connection, and self-reflection. Healing-centered leaders build trust by being vulnerable, creating possibilities, and prioritizing well-being over the hustle culture."

How do you test your read through rate and not just click rate? How do you make sure your members/volunteers are engaging with your materials? One successful idea is to hide action items somewhere inside your emails!
While reading through this months Grant Professionals Association leadership email I came across one of these gems. Per instructions, was the first to email them and received this lovely package! 🥰 GPA is one of my favorite and most supportive groups. So glad I joined them all those years ago, and so glad I’m an active #volunteer.

ICYMI: Vicki's op-ed in Saturday's Santa Fe New Mexican:
"It’s time for a new generation of leadership and for nonprofits to embrace practicing new leadership models in Santa Fe. EDs are often working against stifling power dynamics (read: white supremacy and patriarchy issues — board egos, deep pockets, power holders) in isolation, unable to go to their staff with their challenges, and certainly not able to move their board toward more equitable practices."
