🔒Prioritizing Child Safety in Kiboga: A Community-Led Initiative As a community leader and advocate for children’s rights, I am deeply concerned about the rising #insecurity in Kiboga, especially following the tragic loss of Scovia, a young girl in Primary 4 at Nakasozi Primary School, who was attacked and killed on her way home from fetching water. In response, I have launched a '#child #safety #initiative' to empower our children and unite the community in protecting them. Through consultations with parents, teachers, local leaders, and children, we have agreed on several key safety measures, including: For the #children: 🔹️We are becoming each other's security guards. 🔹️We now walk in groups to and from school or when fetching water 🚶♀️🚶♂️. 🔹️No one is left behind, if someone is tired, we help them keep pace by holding their hand or sending them ahead 🤝. 🔹️We avoid shortcuts and stay away from strangers 🚫. 🔹️We only walk in safe, well-lit areas and avoid risky routes 🕯️. For the #parents: 🔸️We are stepping up by ensuring children are not sent out late or to dangerous places. 🔸️We are reclaiming our parental role by saying no to children attending parties or discos at night. 🔸️We are to continually teach our children the importance of protecting each other. 🔸️We are making it a routine to remind our children not to trust strangers. I am planning #school #visits soon, where I will meet with both children and parents to share these strategies and continue the conversation. I am coordinating with village vice chairpersons of Local Council 1 to hold 10 child-focused sessions and 10 parent-focused sessions at schools in Greater Muwanga. This initiative is not just about rules, it is about building a strong, supportive community where every child is protected.
