I was promoted at Google! 🎉 This milestone also marks my 2-year anniversary in Ireland, and I'm incredibly proud of how much I've grown both personally and professionally. Promos at Google are like rare Pokémon – hard to come by, but all the more precious! I'm incredibly grateful to my team and clients for their support and the opportunities to learn and grow alongside them. Thank you! ❤️ Here's what these two years have taught me about life at Google: 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠: When I first arrived in Ireland, my team covered my back. They even helped me find an apartment (after 5 long months!). They also guided me professionally, offering feedback, coaching, and teaching me the ropes at Google. I'm deeply grateful for their unwavering support. 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐭𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟: Having worked at a large IT company before, I thought I knew what a corporation was. Google is on another level! It's a massive, complex beehive that, while seemingly chaotic, is surprisingly organized once you understand the inner workings. 𝐃𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚 𝐯𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: TGIT parties, Google the Musical where I performed (with colleagues from over 80 countries!), educational sessions, and even an Executive Education certificate from UC Berkeley (more on that in my next post!) – it's like being back on a university campus! Securing a spot at Google is a dream for many, but how do you make it happen? Bachelor in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence student Keti Sulamanidze shared her journey, from her early interest in tech to landing an internship at Google Warsaw. Starting with competitive programming in high school and launching the IE Google Developer Students Club, Keti’s passion and persistence laid the groundwork for her success. “Getting in touch with an IE University alum at Google opened doors for me,” says Keti. With guidance from IE University’s Talent & Careers team, she refined her resume, honed her coding skills and practiced interviews. “It’s about mastering the basics and staying curious—every new tech I encounter, I test out,” she shared. Google’s culture stood out to her as “collaborative, productive and fun,” balancing innovation with a supportive work environment. From tackling algorithmic challenges to real-world projects, Keti’s journey exemplifies the impact of curiosity, collaboration and support. I’m beyond excited to share that I’ve finalized my organization for Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2025! 🚀 This opportunity isn’t just about writing code—it’s about learning, growing, and making an impact on a global scale. When I started this journey, I had so many questions: How do I choose the right organization? What if my skills aren’t enough? How do I even get noticed? If you’re asking yourself the same questions, here’s what worked for me: 1️⃣ Start with passion: Choose an organization that truly excites you. When you care about their mission, your contributions naturally stand out. 2️⃣ Engage early: Join their community, ask questions, and contribute (even small fixes matter). You’ll learn more than you think just by being active. 3️⃣ Focus on growth, not perfection: You don’t need to know everything upfront. Show your willingness to learn, and you’ll gain skills along the way. This journey has already taught me so much about open source, collaboration, and perseverance—and I’m just getting started! To anyone considering GSoC, here’s my advice: take the leap. Even the smallest step can lead to incredible opportunities. I’m incredibly grateful to the mentors and peers who’ve supported me so far.
