We're Certified Hospitality Ambassadors! This past week, managers from each of our La Vida brands took time out of the daily grind to attend the Delaware Restaurant Association's 2024 Hospitality Ambassador Bootcamp at Kings Creek Country Club! Being in the hospitality industry, we're always looking for ways to sharpen our skills, soak in new knowledge, and refine the craft that is so near and dear to us as a hospitality group. We spent the day igniting our passions and reviewing topics like empowering engagement amongst staff, cultivating culture and leadership, social media influence, alcohol responsibility, running an effective pre-shift, and promoting ambassadorship as hospitalitarians and Delawareans. Special thanks to the DRA for hosting us; we thoroughly enjoyed it! #leadership #hospitality #learning #delaware #tourism #training #education #enjoytheride #hospitalityambassadors #teamwork #team #workfamily #humanresources #ambassadors #hospitalityindustry #passion

In the service industry, it's easy to settle for mediocrity and go through the motions. But what if we challenged ourselves to go above and beyond for our customers? Will Guidara, former co-owner of the world's best restaurant, believes that "unreasonable hospitality" is the key to creating unforgettable experiences. However, many businesses struggle to implement this concept, either due to lack of leadership, training, or simply fear of stepping outside the norm. What's holding you back from providing exceptional service?

J. Willard Marriott’s journey started way back in 1927 with something as simple as a nine-stool root beer stand. But that wasn’t where his vision ended. He took that humble start and turned it into the Hot Shoppes Restaurant chain—eventually transforming it into what we now know as Marriott International. J.W. Marriott’s story is one of true evolution and adaptability. His success wasn’t just about growth; it was about staying true to the values that still define Marriott today. He had a talent for spotting trends, reshaping the business, and always putting people first. It’s those qualities that helped turn a small food stand into a global hospitality icon. Today, Marriott stands for so much more than hotels. It’s a brand built on values that have endured through the years, leading an organization that continues to innovate and set standards in the hospitality world. #EntrepreneurialJourney #MarriottLegacy #BusinessTransformation #Leadership #Hospitality #FounderFlip

I started talking to you about restaurants every day over 3 years ago. And it has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. It’s hard to even explain all of the benefits, learnings and outcomes I didn’t see coming. And definitely too many new friends to list. But here are just a few things I want to highlight for those who know content will help them…. But don’t know where to start. 1) Writing every day instills confidence. 2) Daily practice perfects your pitch. 3) There are collabs that you don’t even see 4) Building community makes it easier. 5) Imposter syndrome is real for everyone. 6) There are people who want to help you. 7) Your client is there, and watching you. And as long as you have a strategy to create content, as well as build an audience. Your opportunity is endless. So thank you to the community I have found. And to those who I have had the opportunity to collaborate with so far. There is so much more to come. 👊🏻 Ps. A specific thank you to a few here. 👇🏼 Christin Marvin Scot Turner Michelle Moreno Simon Zatyrka Derek Smith KELLY HIGGINSON Adam Lamb Push Operations 7shifts: Team Management for Restaurants Harri Dylan James Erlendson Notch Restaurants Canada #restaurantindustry #hospitalityindustry #leadership #community

🌟 How to Harness the Power of Hospitality 🌟 Even in the most unexpected places, the power of hospitality can transform interactions. Scott Elbin, founder of the Elbin Group, shares how a pleasant jury services clerk brightened his day and made him reflect on how approach and attitude can impact our everyday interactions. If a jury clerk can serve with hospitality, so can you! 🙌 🔑 Key Takeaways: 1️⃣ Attitude matters: A positive approach can turn even routine encounters into meaningful experiences. 2️⃣ Reflect on your interactions: Are you engaging with others in a perfunctory way? 3️⃣ Aim for “unreasonable hospitality”: Inspired by Will Guidara, Elbin encourages us to ask, "How can I make this experience unexpectedly positive?" In both personal and professional life, the way we serve others can make all the difference. #Leadership #Hospitality #PositiveMindset #CustomerService #EmployeeEngagement #ProfessionalDevelopment #ServiceExcellence #WorkplaceCulture

Have you ever tried counting spaghetti? 🥵 or how about marshmallows (slightly easier)…? The things you do for a memorable training experience and some novel challenges. Housekeeping in my hotel will find my rubbish bin highly amusing. Or just assume I enjoy a lot of marshmallows and dried spaghetti. 😉 Megan Scott, Damian Murphy, Unlocked Potential - let’s hope I counted properly. 🤣 #leadership #leadershipdevelopment

Giving back to Penn State students with an endowed award is such a rewarding way to channel my philanthropy. Here’s a few reasons why… 1. It gives me to opportunity to connect with amazing students like Gabriela Mutone to support her college experience and give gratitude for what she has done for the THON and SHM community. 2. It puts my donations to work in an endowment that will continue to give in perpetuity, even after I’m gone. 3. Award criteria is customizable for the donor. I was honor my two largest Penn State passions, SHM and THON leadership. 4. $1,000 per quarter for 5 years is the commitment for an award level giving, with it being awarded once you fully fund it. This was a great way to channel my annual giving into one source. 5. Naming the gift brings awareness that allows me to connect with other potential donors and share why I decided to give this way. It also normalizes planned giving for all, removing the misconception that it requires decades of wealth and six figures gifts. As a steward and champion for Penn State School of Hospitality Management, if you’re interested in planned giving and have any questions - please connect with me. In future years I’d love to see more awards named for our tremendous alumni. #weare #pennstate #shmproud

I am extremely honored to have received a student award at the Penn State Hotel & Restaurant Society Alumni Awards Reception. The Ashley Akright THON Leadership Award, which was presented for the very first time last night, is dedicated to a student who has leadership involvement and participates in THON. A special congratulations to my peers that also received student awards at last night’s reception, including Grace Blanchard, who received the Jason Harner award, given to a student with leadership in THON. Grace is SHM THON’s Family Relations and Social Media Chair. Well deserved! As I enter into my second year as Primary THON Chair/President for Penn State School of Hospitality Management’s Organization benefitting Penn State THON™, I am truly grateful for everyone that has supported me along this journey, specifically the SHM faculty/staff that have nominated me for this award, and especially Ashley Akright for her generosity towards this award.
