When Australian meteorologist and Channel 7 (Seven Network) weather presenter Jane Bunn is invited to speak at events in #agricultural communities – one of the most common questions she is asked is “what weather app do you use?” And, when she realised there wasn’t a single app on the market she could recommend, the TV personality teamed up with software engineer David Hemming to launch Jane's Weather, a one-stop shop for hyper local weather forecasting for all Australians. Now a $50,000 grant from LaunchVic and Agriculture Victoria is helping the startup hire new talent and launch Jane's Weather Pro, their first professional forecasting service. Make no mistake; I will go to exceeding lengths to prove that "AI" is just a stupid, unaware, soulless piece of algorithmic garbage. So when this popped up 1'st place on "Hacker News"* I jumped at the opportunity: "a tool to help collect and validate startup ideas". (keepmyidea.app) Here's how that went down: Category: "Pest control" Idea: "Rat contraceptives" Then the "AI" spat out the analysis, foregoing the totally obvious context, that you just can't get rubbers onto rats to stop them multiplying... But just let the mindless "AI" run with it, have a laugh and await the inevitable "AI winter" coming to a silly Venture Capitalist near you. ----- RatCon is a unique pest control solution utilizing contraceptives to manage rat populations humanely and effectively, reducing reliance on traditional extermination methods. What problem does it solve? 🔍 The problem of rising rat populations in urban areas leads to health risks, property damage, and increased pest control costs. Traditional methods often harm non-target species and fail to provide long-term solutions. Who is target audience? 🎯 Homeowners, urban property managers, and municipalities facing rodent issues. The audience is environmentally conscious and seeks humane pest management options. What makes this solution unique? 🔧 RatCon stands out by offering a non-lethal solution that lowers rat populations without harming other wildlife. Unlike traps and poisons, it promotes an eco-friendly approach, making it safer for urban environments. ----- * = not what you think. #ai #winter #vc #crash

"Technology is not values neutral" ... "Tools actually have values built into them that they end up conditioning" - Daniel Schmachtenberger or in other words: "If you want to change the way people think. Don't tell them what to think, but give them a tool the use of which will change the way they think." - Buckminster Fuller "Awareness of our own co-creative agency as integral participants in the wider process that contains and defines our own being promotes the understanding that every act of design and all use of technology need to confront the central ethical questions: How do our actions transform the social and ecological process in which we participate? Are we designing in ways that future or de-future? Are we participating appropriately in natural process? Are our actions contributing to individual, community, ecosystems, and planetary health?" "When reality is reduced to a purely materialistic universe composed of atoms and molecules, and explained through technological metaphors like the clockwork, the internal combustion engine, or the computer, it becomes easy to confuse the map and the territory. Once one particular epistemological and ontological position is culturally dominant and that culture spreads around the world through a process of globalisation, the dominant framework for designating meaning in correspondence to our experience of reality locks us into a certain habit of interpreting existence — a classificatory consciousness, rather than a participatory consciousness." "all design and technology can either enhance health and promote the diversity and resilience of life and therefore future or they can decrease the diversity, resilience, and health of life and therefore defuture." From 2006: https://lnkd.in/dn4ASnZP

🌽 Ever thought about how a simple PLOW changed the world? Do you think that TOOLS are value NEUTRAL? The plow wasn't just about farming, it was about dominating animals and the land. Long row cropping needed lots of land, so forests were cleared. A new worldview emerged, one of control and manipulation. Many of us naively believe that technology is neither good nor bad, it's just a tool. But tools have values built into them, and they condition the population that uses them. The plow is a perfect example: Farming with a plow was a completely different behavior, a different worldview. It ended animism, but it also grew populations. Those who used the plow had advantages that led to winning wars, while those who refused were either killed or overpopulated. So, tools and technologies not only affect the nature of human minds and cultures, but they also become obligatory if you don't want to get eliminated or disadvantaged. This is something that we should really keep in mind designing our ventures and creating and releasing new tools. 🤔 What do you think? __ This short clip is part of an epic podcast by Mark from "Before Skool" (Check it on Youtube!) featuring Daniel Schmachtenberger, entitled "Game Theory, False Narratives, Survival, Life Advice - Daniel Schmachtenberger": https://lnkd.in/dgqqVY3m I can wholeheartedly recommend to watch the whole thing. When I read Chris Paik 's monograph “The End of Software”, I received a powerful satori glimpse of how creative forces of destruction might birth the next generation of agritech software. Written by a VC, the thesis contains its share of hyperbole (“Majoring in computer science today will be like majoring in journalism in the late 90’s.”). Nevertheless, it helps illuminate a few vectors about the future of agritech software we are headed towards. Let’s now imagine a scenario from the future. I am the CIO of a third-generation global biological company in 2025. What would tomorrow's agritech platform look like? https://lnkd.in/g5wPHQG8

FarmPrecise is Smarter and Faster, Thanks to Wells Fargo Volunteers! 🙌🌾 We at WOTR are thrilled to acknowledge the incredible contributions of Wells Fargo volunteers who helped us refine the FarmPrecise app! FarmPrecise empowers farmers with vital agromet advisory services, using weather and climate data to guide their decision-making. Since its launch in 2019, the app has grown continuously, and thanks to the dedication of Wells Fargo's volunteers, it's received a significant boost! 📈🌱 These volunteers generously donated their time and expertise to tackle critical areas including: -- Simplified App Navigation: The Wells Fargo team made FarmPrecise more user-friendly, ensuring farmers can effortlessly find the information they need. -- Smarter Image Capture: They helped develop an AI feature that streamlines picture-taking for farmers seeking expert advice. This saves time and builds a valuable image library for future AI models focused on pest and disease detection. -- Streamlined Deployments: A standardised approach for deploying the app and future projects was established, making updates smoother and more efficient.
