“It’s very hard to escape and rebuild because it’s not just one part of your life. It’s everything.” Wise words from Lula Dembele, who speaks not only from personal experience but also from her work with other victim-survivors of #financialabuse. This is why responding to financial abuse is not as simple as teaching financial literacy and encouraging women to be more financially independent. It is far more complex to rewire your relationship with money after having it used to control you or to force you to choose between poverty or violence. And it’s why we need to shift the focus to changing the attitudes and behaviour of those who use money as weapon of coercive control. #designedtodisrupt
Lula Dembele, an advocate and victim-survivor of family violence, unpacks the different impacts of domestic abuse and why leaving an abusive relationship isn't as straightforward as merely walking away. This clip was taken from our 2024 FW Leadership Summit. If you need support you can contact 1800 RESPECT. In an emergency, always call 000. Thanks to our Presenting Partner Commonwealth Bank and our Partner SG Fleet AU for supporting this event.

Since our founding in 2009, ProInspire has partnered with social change leaders and organizations to help create a world where everyone can thrive. We believe that when BIPOC leaders, who are closely connected to their communities, thrive in their workplaces, they foster thriving in their organizations and communities. Our new research, Thriving Leaders and Communities, focuses on accelerating racial equity by understanding the conditions needed for BIPOC leaders, organizations and communities to thrive. We are passionate about building a future where race and other aspects of identity do not determine the success of leaders or organizations. Thriving social justice organizations are key to creating racially equitable communities where everyone flourishes! Join us at our upcoming webinar to talk more about how we can all create conditions for thriving!
Our latest research report has reinvigorated our hope for the future here at ProInspire. After interviewing 58 nonprofit senior leaders of color across 39 cities, one thing we know is true: leaders of color can and will THRIVE with the necessary conditions. Change is possible. Change is happening. And we’re so excited to share more about what we’ve learned. Despite the real and pervasive challenges faced by communities in the U.S. and globally, we have the power to nurture and invest in the path towards collective progress and transformation. 📣 Read our latest blog on the release of Thriving Leaders & Communities (TLC): Recommendations from Nonprofit Leaders of Color: https://lnkd.in/gScBVpHx ➡️ Want to learn more about our research findings and ways to cultivate thriving in your leadership? I once met a shy 14-year-old at our YMCA youth program. Today, she's leading initiatives to address food insecurity in her community. This transformation isn't rare. It's the power of youth engagement done right. Key ingredients: 1. Listen first, act second 2. Provide real responsibilities, not just tasks 3. Celebrate small wins consistently 4. Connect youth with diverse mentors 5. Create safe spaces for failure and growth Remember: Young people aren't just the leaders of tomorrow. They're the changemakers of today. Are we giving them the chance to shine? #YouthLeadership #CommunityEngagement

“Strong community is made from strong leaders.” JDC ensures the sustainability of the global Jewish community through a range of impactful leadership programs. These include Szarvas — the JDC-Lauder international Jewish summer camp in rural Hungary; Active Jewish Teens (AJT) — JDC’s flagship youth program in partnership with BBYO, which unites thousands of Jewish teenagers across dozens of cities in the former Soviet Union (FSU); and the Kaplan Leadership Initiative — a global JDC program that equips Jewish community professionals in Europe, the FSU, and Latin America with the essential tools and support to cultivate dedicated leadership for a strong Jewish future. Kaplan Leadership Initiative founders Carol and Edward Kaplan were recently inducted into JDC’s prestigious Laura Margolis Society for their inspiring philanthropy, vision, and leadership that strengthens Jewish communities worldwide. Meet Radu, Kateryna, and Carol.
