Lanier was a proud sponsor of the 57th Annual YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas Turkey Trot Thanksgiving 5k/8mile that took place last week! The Dallas Lanier Parking Running Crew had a great time trotting together before spending the holiday with their families. As we continue the season of gratitude and giving, Dallas Operations Manager Amanda Sanchez, who participated in the Turkey Trot, said, "We are extremely thankful to this company for bringing our team together; we are always there to motivate and lean on each other, and this year's Turkey Trot was no exception!"

Today we held our local Scouts fair.Great turnout and brilliant way to bring communities together. These are events that build trust, bridge gaps and allow you to engage in a meaningful manner.I strongly feel more needs to be done to give resources to voluntary groups nested within communities to help share important health campaigns rather than expecting them to do so without monetary compensation. #bridgethegap#health#resources#equity#VCSE

The Importance of Capacity and Capability in Preserving Sporting Heritage. In this Sporting Heritage webinar, we explore the challenges of capacity and capability in preserving sporting heritage. "We don't have the time; we don't have the money to put into this because there are there are things which governing bodies think are probably more of a priority." "It's not just about collecting things; it's about curating, identifying what's important, and managing the logistics, which are way bigger than I ever imagined." Volunteers play a crucial role, but they need to feel supported and valued. Providing time, resources, and systems to make their work easier is essential to preserving heritage effectively. How can we address these challenges to build capacity and capability in sport? I am excited to announce that the Perth-wide service project working with Uniting WA providing essentials to those experiencing homelessness has been published in national news website Horizons, on YouTube, and on Baha'i Blog! ⭐ https://lnkd.in/gQ-FJ5k6 ⭐ https://lnkd.in/gArqBPQR ⭐ https://lnkd.in/gX7zgM7E Sonia Raisi and I teamed up to initially organize a collaboration service project between the ECU and UWA Baha'i Societies, but as we learned more about Uniting WA's need for large-scale donations, we decided to take on the challenge of transforming it into a Perth-wide event. We had never organized an initiative of this scale before, so we wanted to share some of our learning! 1. Take time to learn from the professionals. It is imperative with any project to maintain honesty in what can be accomplished with your capabilities alone, and when to seek wisdom from other professionals. Recognizing that we had little education on what it is like to be experiencing homelessness in Perth, we decided to reach out to Rhys Powell from Uniting WA, since Uniting WA is the leading nonprofit in Western Australia for tackling this challenge. Our Zoom meeting with him allowed us to refine our vision and task breakdown to maximize the effect we could have on our local community. 2. Diversify advertising, but invest the most time on one-on-one invitations because they are harder to miss and more enticing to accept. We let others know about the event through the ECU and UWA Baha'i Society Instagrams, youth group chats, junior youth group leaders, emails sent by local institutions, and one-on-one messages between friends and acquaintances. By far, the most effective form of communication that influenced others to participate was the final one. 3. Be clear in communicating the level of inclusivity of the event. We strongly encouraged all the junior youth groups in Perth to participate in the project by collecting from their local neighbourhoods. However, many of the older generations misunderstood this encouragement to mean that the event was only for youth and junior youth. Thus, they thought that they could not participate, even though this was an all-inclusive event. Some more details: ✨ We had 150-200 donors total ✨ By the end of the event, we had received so many donations that the stage was overflowing! ✨ About 70 people attended the event ✨ The program consisted of a presentation from Rhys, refreshments, and a social portion If you want to get involved in our next service project, feel free to send me a message! The UWA and ECU Baha'i Societies are committed to organizing events that are focused on including as many individuals as possible with the goal of eliminating apathy towards social issues and nurturing a sense of united protagonism throughout Perth.

Did you know that Rotary youth programs, including #RYPEN, #RYLA and #RotaryYouthExchange have helped develop more than 10,000 young people in Rotary Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands just in the last 10 years? Rotary Reconnect Week provides a reminder that most of these people are happy to help, if given the opportunity. Who will you ask first? #rotaryreconnectweek
Doing my best to increase Rotary’s impact, expand our reach, enhance participants’ engagement and increase our ability to adapt.
Do you know all about #RotaryReconnectWeek? How are you celebrating? The Rotary Club of North Hobart will hear from two former exchange students, Chloe McCann and Evelyn Unwin Tew. Finding Family and Purpose in Rotary... I just wanted to share a little about something that's brought so much joy and meaning into my life: Rotary. It's more than just a club; it's a tight-knit community dedicated to making the world a better place. From day one, I've been embraced by a group of people who aren't just friends—they're like family. They're always there to support, encourage, and uplift me, no matter what. But it's not just about the camaraderie. Rotary is all about making a difference. Whether it's tackling local issues or contributing to global causes, every project we take on is a chance to create positive change in the world. And the best part? While we're busy serving others, we're also growing personally and professionally. Through Rotary, I've gained invaluable skills, made lasting connections, and discovered a sense of purpose I never knew I was missing. So, if you've ever thought about joining Rotary, I say go for it. You'll find more than just a club—you'll find a family who will support you every step of the way as we work together to make the world a better place. #rotarian #connections #visionary P.S: Pic from our last Board meeting.

My recent blog 'Its high time to develop a comprehensive strategy to combat racism in Ireland.' Have a full read here
‘I was watching the European Athletics Championship in Italy with an Irish family and saw the stunning performance of the 21-year-old sprinter Rhasidat Adeleke. 'We were all excited and cheerful and had tears of joy watching the young Irish talented performance. The whole country was cheerful and celebrated her success. 'The following week, as I was broadcasting on my radio show, I heard the top-of-hour news on the radio that Adeleke had been a victim of online racism and hate. 'Hearing that turned the happy moment to sadness. An inspiring young woman, world-class champion, was having to endure online hatred by cowards trying to bring her down. 'Although it was encouraging to see the solidarity shown by the media, community leaders, organisations across the whole of Ireland, the abuse Adeleke has faced is reflective of what many in our society are dealing with on a daily basis. 'People in racialised and marginalised communities, migrants, ethnic minorities, women of colour, face double discrimination: social exclusion and racism based on the colour of their skin, plus the further marginalisation that comes with living in poverty, facing homelessness and economic insecurity.’ 👉 Read Doras’ latest blog: ‘It is high time to develop a comprehensive strategy to combat racism in Ireland’ by our Project Coordinator Fahmeda Naheed 👉 https://lnkd.in/eDcFP-4M

NAIDOC Week offers a meaningful opportunity to celebrate and honour the traditional custodians of our beautiful country. The 2024 theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Simple acts like displaying the National NAIDOC poster or learning the traditional place names of our cities—such as Naarm (Melbourne), Meanjin (Brisbane), Warrane (Sydney), and Boorloo (Perth)—are great ways to show respect and engage with Indigenous cultures. One of the most impactful ways to acknowledge NAIDOC Week is by inviting Indigenous speakers, Elders, and representatives to your events. Their contributions can include Welcome to Country ceremonies, educational talks, comedy shows, or musical performances. These interactions allow us to learn about Indigenous communities' rich cultural practices, beliefs, and traditions, enhancing our relationship with the world around us. Why Have a First Nations Australian Speaker at Your Event? Centering voices with lived experience is crucial for any event focusing on Australia’s traditional custodians. Only Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people can perform a Welcome to Country, though anyone can perform an Acknowledgement of Country. Some of Australia’s most prominent figures in sport and other fields are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. These speakers provide unique perspectives on sport, diversity, and inclusion, making your event more inspiring, enriching and impactful. Some topics that Dean Widders is passionate about: • His journey as an Indigenous rugby league player and advocate • His mission to create the historic NRL INDIGENOUS ALL-STARS pre-game War Cry • The importance of reconciliation and social justice • The power of sport to unite people • The importance of leadership and teamwork • Facilitation of Yarning Circles for your organisation or team Some topics Taylah Gray is passionate about include: • The importance of defending civil rights and liberties • The nuances of Aboriginal culture and justice • The intricacies of Native Title and land reform Contact us to book Dean or Taylah to elevate your NAIDOC celebrations. #naidoc #keynotespeaker #yarningcircle
