This NZ Road Safety Week, we want to highlight the importance of Road Safety for all road users.
As we all know, our roads are becoming increasingly busy, making it crucial to avoid distractions while on the road.
We have highlighted before that when you travel at 90 km/h, you are actually traveling at 25 meters per second. Just two seconds of distraction at that speed, means you have travelled 50 meters without paying attention—half a rugby field. Driver distraction, alongside fatigue, is a major cause of incidents in our network.
At Coda, our top priority is the safety of our team members. Driver distraction is a serious concern, and we are dedicated to ensuring everyone gets home safely.
We have used "Stop for Safety", for our safety messaging in the past, and it applies to all of us, not just our professional drivers.
So, what does "Stop for Safety" mean?
It means saying NO to distractions: reaching for a phone, not using a hands-free option, eating while driving, or grabbing a bag. These actions can lead to life-changing accidents, and none of us want that responsibility.
For professional drivers, we understand the demands of your job, but multitasking while driving is not worth the risk. We ask all drivers to Stop for Safety, and find a safe place to stop before grabbing something from a bag, having a snack, or making a call without a hands-free option. This message applies to all of us whether using commercial or private vehicles.
At Coda, we value the lives of our team members above all else, and their safety is non-negotiable. Join us, this NZ Road Safety Week in our commitment to Stop for Safety and say NO to distractions.
