Honoring Veterans on Veterans Day Today, we take a moment to honor the dedication and sacrifices made by the men and women who have served in our armed forces. Here are a few unique facts that remind us of the incredible contributions of our veterans: 📅 A Legacy of Service: Veterans Day originated as "Armistice Day" in 1919, marking the end of WWI. By 1954, it became the Veterans Day we know today, a time to honor veterans of all conflicts. 👩💼 Leaders and Problem-Solvers: Did you know? Veterans make up 10% of all U.S. business owners. Their leadership skills and work ethic often translate into successful ventures that benefit communities across the nation. 🌍 Continued Dedication to Service: Veterans remain active in their communities after active duty. Statistics show that veterans are 30% more likely to volunteer, proving that their commitment to helping others never fades. 🕰️ Continuous Vigilance: The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery has been guarded continuously since 1937, a powerful symbol of commitment and respect. Today, let's celebrate and thank our veterans for their bravery, integrity, and dedication, which inspire us all. #VeteransDay #HonoringService #Gratitude

Happy Veterans Day to all my sisters and brothers in arms. Some valuable insights from my time. 1. Deliberate development of service members is valuable to your company. Why? Because as military leaders we have to understand people’s strengths and weaknesses. Then place them in the most advantageous space for them to excel. While they excel, we have to develop them further to be able to lead the next generation of service members. This cycle repeats and it something veterans take with them after departing service. 2. Working with people from all over. We are a force made of people from every background. We learn to adapt, understand and communicate across things that would normally divide or slow the civilian population. Adaptability and being able to understand others is a major strength veteran possess. For Veterans Day this year, I challenge you to not only thank a Veteran. It’s always for us to hear that. But, have a conversation with a veteran in your work center. Ask about what they learned in the military and ask what was the best part for them. You will get a good story. If you want to laugh ask them about basic training. Reflecting back and telling those stories you may laugh until you cry. #military #veterans

Thank you, Divergent and Czinger Vehicles veterans, for your service. Yesterday, November 10th, was the birthay of the United States Marine Corps. It reminded me of my service as an enlisted infantry rifleman in the Marine Corps Reserves. I will never forget my Senior Drill Instructor, (then) Staff Sergeant Robert Romero, at Parris Island. The lessons I learned there left an indelible mark on the rest of my life. The 11 USMC leadership principles include: 1.Know yourself and seek self-improvement. 2.Be technically and tactically proficient. 3.Know your people and look out for their welfare. 4.Keep your personnel informed. 5.Set the example. 6.Ensure the task is understood, supervised, and accomplished. 7.Train your Marines (and Sailors) as a team. 8.Make sound and timely decisions. 9.Develop a sense of responsibility among your subordinates. 10.Employ your command within its capabilities. 11.Seek responsibilities and take responsibility. Marines exist by a set of enduring core values and standards that create the bedrock of personal character. Semper Fi

Today, November 11, 2024, we commemorate Veterans Day. Originally known as “Armistice Day,” Veterans Day was established to honor those who died and to mark the end of World War I on November 11, 1918. In 1938, Congress made Armistice Day a National Holiday, but following World War II and the Korean War, Congress renamed it “Veterans Day” to honor American Veterans of all wars, both living and deceased. With that, we celebrated the first official “Veterans Day” on November 11, 1954. For 70 years, while we have participated in other wars and conflicts, Veterans Day remains so we may continue honoring all those who served—and as a reminder that our freedom is not free. I encourage you all to reflect on this year’s Veterans Day theme of, “A Legacy of Loyalty and Service.” The dictionary defines loyalty as giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution and service as the action of helping or doing work for someone. But what does it mean to you? In our reflection, we should recognize that we are standing on the shoulders of giants. We carry on the legacy of loyalty and service of the men and women who served before us. Although our nation’s security environment has shifted many times throughout our history, one thing remains: the most pivotal factor in our military’s capability is that of Americans who raise their right hand to protect our freedom. To all our veterans and their families—thank you for your service and your sacrifice. Our Nation owes you a great debt. Happy Veterans Day. Lieutenant General Tom D. Miller, USAF DCS/Logistics, Engineering, & Force Protection
