Safeguard Your Wheels: The Importance of Bicycle Insurance 🚲 - By John Sims The Tour de France starts on Saturday the 26th of June, the Grande Départ, The first stage is between Florence and Rimini. This will be the 26th Tour that departs from outside France but the first Tour that won’t finish in Paris due to the Olympics, it will finish in Nice. I’m no cyclist but this is one of those events that I am addicted to watching. 176 competitors, 3492 kilometres (and up and down mountains) and 3 weeks of competition with only two rest days. The fitness, grit and determination is extraordinary. I got thinking about the cost of the bikes they ride. Technology plays a big part, every fraction of a second counts and for the time trials the top riders may well ride a Pinarello Bolide that costs a cool £39,663. Cycling in the UK has become a phenomenon since the Pandemic. I have a good friend who found cycling to be his salvation during lockdown. One of those kind cyclist who doesn’t love riding four abreast on a Sunday morning! He recently treated himself to a Pinarello Narello Ace Road Bike which set him back a healthy £13,300.00. I was fascinated and delighted to hear he had really done his research on insuring his new love child. I had no idea there was a whole new market that had opened up to cater for the needs of those who cherished their bikes, or who raced, even if it was just with the local cycle club, something not covered by most standard insurers. Some examples include: sundaysinsurance.co.uk https://lnkd.in/eaFPv5_J You can get cover for racing, new for old for the life of the bike, breakdown and so it goes on. Prices for his cover ranged from £300 to £1,000 depending on what you need. There was even an option to join a collective or mutual called Laka (https://laka.co/gb.) Their model is clever, “Laka uses a people-powered insurance subscription to make insurance fair, not fixed. Each months claims are spread amongst a collective of cyclists like you, so your monthly bill varies up to a guaranteed cap.” Some serious innovation going on here and winning awards as a result Voted Best Cycle Insurance Provider for the last 6 years at the Insurance Choice Awards. Reminds me of when we launched Chubb Masterpiece in 1996 and changed the HNW market for ever; what fun we had bringing it to market. It's also good to see serious insurers behind some of these products, the likes of Hiscox and Zurich for example. I have to say that doing this research made me proud that our industry is capable of finding proper solutions to our customer’s needs. As always, it is best to talk to your broker as many of the HNW markets will cover cycles of this sort of value. Essential Guide To Driving A Rental Car Between The UAE And Oman By Paolo Cevoli - September 2024 If you're planning to drive a rental car between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman, or vice versa, it’s important to familiarise yourself with the updated regulations to avoid any unnecessary complications. One of the key requirements is obtaining a Non-Objection Certificate (NOC) from your car rental company, allowing you to cross the border with the vehicle. This is not something that can be arranged at the last minute, so it’s essential to request the NOC at least 3 to 4 days in advance. Additionally, you must ensure that your car rental insurance covers both countries, as Oman requires proof of valid insurance that is accepted on its roads. Most rental companies can assist in extending insurance coverage, but this needs to be confirmed well in advance of your trip. If you’re staying at the Atana Khasab Hotel in Oman or planning to explore the stunning Musandam fjords on a cruise, it's vital to have all the necessary paperwork in place before departing. Khasab, located on the Musandam Peninsula, is a popular destination for UAE visitors, but crossing the border without the correct documentation can result in delays or even being refused entry. Therefore, ensure your car rental company has provided all the required documents, including the NOC and proof of insurance, well before your journey. Today, despite facing some issues, having last visited 10 years ago and found the rules had changed, I was fortunate to obtain the necessary documents in around two hours. This experience reinforced the importance of checking all entry requirements for both people and vehicles beforehand, even if you are familiar with the country you are visiting. So, when it comes to cross-border driving, remember: a little preparation goes a long way, and it’s better to be safe than stuck! · · · #UAEtoOman #RentalCarTips #TravelSmart #MusandamAdventures #RoadTripReady
