"La Jolla Playhouse’s new spin on Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" puts UC San Diego talent in the spotlight. Written by UC San Diego Theatre and Dance alumna Anna Ouyang Moench and starring Marco Barricelli, professor of acting, as Scrooge, the performance offers a clever twist on a classic holiday tale. 🎭" https://lnkd.in/gR8RJTbs

Such a powerful performance.
With Nikki Ind at the gala performance of the excellent new play ‘Constellations’ at the Barn Theatre. An intense and moving interaction between just two actors on stage. Well worth seeing.

My latest episode of The Play Podcast.
When it premiered in London’s West End in 1960, 'The Caretaker' catapulted its author to fame and fortune. The play is set entirely in a single room in a dilapidated house, and presents the territorial battle between three men living on the margins of society. The psychological manoeuvrings of the men are dramatised in what we now recognise as Pinter’s cryptic mix of comedy and menace, along with his characteristic relish in the precision and panache of language. As we record this episode a new production of the play is playing in the Minerva theatre at the Chichester Festival Theatre, and I am delighted to welcome its director, Justin Audibert, to the podcast to help us explore Pinter's enigmatic work. https://lnkd.in/dSrsRicd

🎭 "Being taught drama can transform your life." 🎭 This theme was highlighted by both Keir Starmer and Lisa Nandy at this year's Labour Party (UK) Conference, in which they both highlighted the critical importance of arts in education. The National Curriculum requires every state funded school to promote children's cultural development, preparing them for the experiences of later life. However, whilst the private school sector is able to invest in cultural education, the state sector has suffered a significant reduction in provision, due in part to the marginalisation of arts subjects in schools over the past twenty years. Children from low income are missing out the most because they are less likely to have cultural experiences outside of school. Furthermore, the ongoing cost-of-living crisis has led to a reduction in school trips, including theatre visits. Society of London Theatre & UK Theatre believe that every child has the right to go to the theatre, to experience the joy and opportunity that it can bring. It’s been almost 1 year since we launched #TheatreForEveryChild, our campaign to ensure every child goes to the theatre before they leave school. Over the next month, we’ll be celebrating some of the amazing work our members do to ensure young people have access to great theatre.

My words fly up, my thoughts remain below: Words without thoughts never to heaven go... The King in Hamlet Act 3 Scene 3. Day one of teaching back at The Theatre Academy DAMU Prague... sixth year of my Making Theatre course. The course starts by questioning what theatre we are making (or should be?), why, and who we're making it for... #storytelling with value and impact.
