In British Columbia wine news, the AGLC has announced a program to allow direct to consumer sales into Alberta for BC wineries. “Interested B.C. wineries can start the approval process with AGLC starting Monday, December 9, 2024, however must wait for formal authorization from AGLC before they begin selling direct to consumers in Alberta. The process will take 2-4 weeks to complete and approved wineries will be able to start shipping to Alberta customers on January 6, 2025.” https://lnkd.in/gWzHPfRv.

Home distilling spirits is illegal for consumption and sale... in most states. Similar to #cannabis, it looks like archaic laws around the legality of #distilling are likely to be challenged one state at a time, and #WestVirginia just took the lead! A bill allowing individuals to distill up to 5 gallons of #liquor for personal consumption has passed the state's House and Senate! Your opinion of the TV show "#Moonshiners" (silly theatrics and semi-scripted plotlines aside) reignited interest in the dying art of making #moonshine. In line with this and the home making trends of the pandemic, home #distilling of a variety of #spirits, including #whiskey, #rum, and #gin, has found more hobbyists than ever. At first, things were going smoothly. Filmmaker Nate Kresge said he was receiving grants through a little-known state program to promote Pennsylvania’s beer industry. The money went toward a documentary and, later, a series called Poured in PA that showcased everyone from local brewmasters to the local artists who created the labels on beer cans.
