I launched Matchbox because of a deep obsession with understanding what works well online (and why…) Just like at a physical event you can look around the room and see all the new connections forming in real time, I viscerally felt the power of online events to catalyze… New connections. New ideas. New insights on how to best serve communities. Matchbox has been along the journey of so many association’s stories while they were seeking to catalyze the outcomes most important to their communities. Through the process, I couldn’t help but notice the standout appearance of Demo Days emerging as this really powerful new addition to an association’s offerings. In my own intellectual curiosity, I found myself gravitating toward understanding why it works so well (and therefore what it can catalyze beyond the events themselves.) And that’s why Matchbox has made the decision to put all of our bench strength and focus into helping launch and run Demo Days event series. We’ve been quietly moving in this direction and refining our offering for this outcome, and we’re so excited to share this with the community. Here’s what you can expect from us in the near future: 👉 Demo Day specific content, including success stories of the first pioneers, and applied toolkits that help with every step along the way. 👉 Partnerships with companies that can add major value through applied use of what they offer. 👉 A user group community of associations who are passionate about their B2B ecosystems and eager to learn from each other. Since day one, Matchbox has delivered the most value to associations ready to launch something fresh and groundbreaking (we know the journey well!). After our rebrand, we listened closely to see which digital initiatives truly resonated. What we discovered, time and time again, was the standout impact of the Demo Days concept — which was originally pioneered by ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership. And it’s easy to see why: Demo Days provide a new member benefit that brings substantial non-dues revenue. But as we dug deeper, we realized it’s so much more than just revenue. Demo Days are proving to be a dynamic strategy for connecting with new industry partners. Joined a panel discussion at a conference for the first time recently, and it got me thinking: Why are Ukrainians so shy when it comes to talking about their achievements? I’ve noticed this after attending a lot of conferences over the past few months (in Europe and UK mostly) It’s something I see not just in others, but in me too 😬 Here’s the thing: I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved with eventmate Really! Over the year, we’ve grown our GMV 4x. We’ve navigated challenges I couldn’t have imagined — launched in Brazil & Europe, acquired first paid clients there and received great feedback from them! We’re building something that truly makes a difference for event creators. But even with all of that, grabbing a mic and saying it out loud still feels… itchy. Like I’m bragging, or stepping out of line somehow. Why is that? I think a lot of it comes back to how many of us were raised. To be humble. To stay quiet about our wins. To believe that our work should speak for itself. But here’s the truth: if we don’t talk about our achievements, who will? Sharing our stories isn’t about showing off — it’s about inspiring others, building connections, and reminding ourselves of how far we’ve come 🫂 I’m still on a learning curve here. Congrats to Sam Lippman, Ellen and the Lippman Connects team on delivering another outstanding #ECEF event on Wednesday (29th) this week. It was a bit different for me . . . I think I have been to every one of these events since it launched, but this is my first sitting on the "other" side - meaning the supplier/partner (consultant) side. Believe it or not, I think I took more away with this perspective, perhaps because I didn't go in with an already pre-defined set of challenges. Sessions by Ken Holsinger and Greg Topalian were a highlight for me, as was hearing the inspiring words of Bob Priest-Heck, but there were plenty of takeaways. Here are a few of the more important messages I heard: - TRUST > Shows are the most trusted source of information and have become even more trusted in the last year . . . but we have to keep working to maintain that trust. - DIGITAL > Tied to the point above - we can deliver trusted information (knowledge) in various forms, including digital; in some cases, digital may offer greater revenue opportunities than live. - CHANGE > To grow and effect change you must pick a north star, accept failure and plan to adjust, many times. - CHANGE FACTORS > Tenacity, energy and resilience are critical when affecting change. - CONNECTING > Facilitating meaningful connections will not be optional in the future; this will be built in - a requirement for all events (and may be solved by an entity outside our industry). - MEANING > Shows bring people together and allow them to be part of something bigger; shows are enormously powerful in this way. - VALUE > The audience is often forgotten in the show equation; attendees will pay for value and the right experience (think VIP programs; Shoptalk). #eventprofs #expo #tradeshows
