On 29 November, KPMG, in partnership with the Ghana Association of Banks hosted a webinar on "Managing Emerging Fraud Risks in Financial Institutions." The session, featuring key experts, discussed the 2023 Bank of Ghana Fraud Report, highlighting a 5% increase in fraud cases, totaling GHS 88 million in losses. Emerging fraud trends like SIM swap fraud, cyber fraud, and insider threats were explored. The panel emphasised the importance of proactive collaboration, enhanced governance, and the use of advanced technologies like AI and blockchain to detect fraud. It was also noted that financial institutions must strengthen internal controls, educate staff and customers, and improve third-party governance to prevent fraud effectively.
