Migration Matters On December 18th, we celebrate International Migrants Day, a date that deeply resonates with me as it also marks my birthday. As a woman, migrant, and entrepreneur living abroad, my life has always been intertwined with the subject of migration. From an early age, I grew up surrounded by stories of movement, resilience, and the pursuit of new horizons, which fueled my passion for advocating policies that benefit migrants and the communities that welcome them. Migration is neither a recent phenomenon nor an isolated one. It is an essential part of our humanity, tracing back to our earliest steps as a species in Africa. We are all migrants at heart—a reminder that migration is not a problem to be solved but a reality to be managed for mutual benefit. As a specialist in communication and interculturality, author, and mentor, I have dedicated my professional and personal life to addressing migration through a human-centered approach. Through my projects, I strive to transform the challenges of migration into opportunities for growth and connection. I firmly believe that inclusive, well-designed policies can turn migration into a powerful engine for innovation and development. Now more than ever, we must recognize that migration impacts us all, whether through emigrating or welcoming migrants into our communities. Let us reflect on its value, celebrate its positive impact, and work together to build a more inclusive world. Migration matters because it unites us and reflects our essence as humanity. #migrationmatters #migrants #interculturality #integration #tolerance

Reflecting on International Migrants Day: A Call for True Inclusivity As we mark International Migrants Day, it is a time to pause and reflect on the journeys, struggles, and triumphs of migrants worldwide. Migration is as old as humanity itself; a testament to our shared history of movement, exchange, and growth. Yet, for many migrants, the journey is fraught with challenges: barriers to access, discrimination, and exclusion that deny them the dignity and opportunities they deserve. True inclusivity goes beyond token gestures. It means creating systems and spaces where migrants are not merely welcomed but empowered to thrive. It means acknowledging that migrants are not "others". They are students, workers, innovators, caregivers, and leaders who enrich the societies they become part of. Their resilience and diversity are strengths, not burdens. This day is a reminder that inclusivity is not a favor we extend but a responsibility we share. To build truly inclusive communities, we must listen to migrant voices, dismantle discriminatory systems, and address the inequalities that force many to leave their homes. We must ensure that policies prioritize their safety, rights, and well-being. Let us reflect on the world we want to create, one where belonging is not conditional, and no one is left behind. Today, and every day, let us choose solidarity over division, empathy over fear, and inclusion over exclusion. Together, we can shape a future that celebrates the humanity in migration and the shared strength in diversity. #InternationalMigrantsDay #InclusivityMatters #DiversityIsStrength #TogetherWeThrive

🌍 International Migrants Day is, for me, a moment to reflect on my own journey as a migrant—the milestones I’ve reached and the incredible people who have shaped my story. Migration has not only allowed me to pursue new opportunities, but also reunited me with dear friends, whose own paths once took them far away. It has introduced me to mentors who paved my way, colleagues who supported me, and communities that welcomed me. But today is also a moment to think about how we, as a society, view migration and migrants. Migrants bring immense potential, resilience, and innovation, enriching the communities they join. Yet, many, if not all, face barriers, stereotypes, and struggles that often remain unseen. Let’s use this day as a call to action: ✨ To recognize the value migrants bring. ✨ To create opportunities that enable their contributions to flourish. ✨ To support and empathize with their struggles, ensuring they are met with dignity and respect. ✨ To amplify their voices, showcasing their solidarity and advocacy. To all the migrants out there: our journeys, our courage, and our contributions matter. And to everyone else: let’s work together to build a world that embraces the beauty of migration and the shared humanity it represents. 👉 To hear inspiring stories from migrants and gain a deeper understanding of their journeys, check out this link: https://lnkd.in/dUKK9RvC #InternationalMigrantsDay #Migration #DiversityAndInclusion #Empathy #CallToAction

What Happens When Migrants Are Given a Chance I’m a migrant myself, as is my business partner, Gosia Syta. Together, we understand the resilience, hope, and grit required to start anew and build a life in a different country. For those who don’t know me, I’m Marta Zukowska, with over two decades of experience in the third sector, helping leaders grow their social businesses and charities. I have also a very personal connection to the subject - my husband, Aso Sherabayani, arrived in the UK as a refugee 25 years ago with a suitcase full of dreams, determination, and a simple desire to build a meaningful life. Over time, he’s become an actor, appearing in films like American Assassin and The Swimmers, a poignant story of a refugee’s journey. Soon, he’ll also be featured in The Warfare by Alex Garland. Aso’s journey—from refugee to artist—is a powerful testament to what’s possible when migrants are given a fair chance and a supportive community. When migrants are welcomed and empowered, they bring unique perspectives, creativity, and invaluable resilience that enrich their communities. In London and cities like it, stories of migrant success are woven into the fabric of daily life. Like Aso’s, these are stories of people who arrived with little more than hopes and have since built full lives, meaningful careers, and even thriving businesses. Statistics back this up: 39% of the fastest growing start ups in UK. Migrants & Refugees are often entrepreneurial, driven by the need to create their own path. In fact, in the UK, one in seven companies is founded by someone from a migrant background, which means jobs are created, economies strengthened, and communities enriched. But so many people with talent and drive still face real barriers—language, limited resources, and the complexity of navigating an unfamiliar environment. Without guidance and support, these obstacles can feel impossible to overcome, and too often, dreams are deferred and potential goes untapped. Currently, we’re recruiting for a special program in Haringey aimed at helping migrant entrepreneurs turn their visions into reality. This free program offers practical guidance, mentorship, and a network of peers and supporters. We help with everything from creating a business plan to understanding local regulations and reaching customers. It’s an initiative meant to help break down the barriers that hold too many people back. If you know someone who could benefit from this program, please let us know—we’re recruiting until November 11th, and we’re looking to help individuals who are ready to take that next step. Together, let’s continue to build a community that not only welcomes migrants but also actively supports and empowers them to reach their full potential. Whether it’s by supporting local businesses, volunteering, or simply remaining open-minded and kind, every act of inclusion makes a difference. Let’s make sure everyone has the chance to thrive.
