The Shedd Aquarium has officially unveiled its new exhibit, Wonder of Water, a bustling freshwater and saltwater ecosystem. This reimagining of the Shedd Aquarium's historic Rotunda is a mesmerizing journey where guests can stand at the heart of the aquarium and explore the biodiversity of life beneath the water’s surface. Klein & Hoffman contributed to Wonder of Water by providing advanced structural engineering as the EOR. Integrating the new curvilinear concrete structure to rise within the original steel frame of the historic Rotunda required detailed collaboration between all the design partners to create the new gem of the Shedd Aquarium. Working Together, we helped bring this vision to life while maintaining the integrity of the historic space. In addition to being one of the largest planted freshwater exhibits in the world, the Wonder of Water includes: -Vibrant & beautiful coral -1,500 bold and beautiful reef fish -5,000 fish swimming amongst a variety of 50 lush plant species -And much more This milestone is part of Shedd’s Centennial Commitment to evolve guest experiences and drive conservation efforts leading up to its centennial in 2030. Klein & Hoffman is grateful to have contributed to an innovative, immersive experience for guests to be mesmerized by the beauty of aquatic nature.
