Reflecting on a Year of Impact and Partnership As 2024 draws to a close, we at IM Swedish Development Partner (Southern Africa region office), celebrate the strides made together with our incredible partners across #Malawi and #Zimbabwe. I was honoured during the year, to have an opportunity of meeting each one of them along with the rightsholders they work with. Through their dedication and resilience, I saw and felt their remarkable progress in advancing economic justice, climate resilience, and social inclusion. 👥 In Malawi, through our partnership with Malawi Economic Justice Network (MEJN), Centre for Environmental Policy and Advocacy (CEPA), Point of Progress (PoP), Youth Action For Success and Development -YASD, Concerned Youth Organisation (CYO), and Green Girls Platform (GGP), we have seen remarkable progress as they championed initiatives that empowered women and youth and their communities whilst driving sustainable change amongst the rightsholders. 🌿 Across the borders, in Zimbabwe, our great partnership with Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development ZIMCODD, Green Governance Zimbabwe Trust (GGZT), Sprout Women Empowerment Trust (SWET), Green Institute and Simukai Child Protection Programme have continued to lead the charge for climate justice, economic empowerment, and advocacy. Through this partnership, we’re building a future where voices are heard, power has been shifted, and communities are thriving as you can see in the provided video collage of various photos from our partners.💪 #ReflectingOnImpact #EconomicJustice #ClimateResilience #SocialInclusion #SustainableDevelopment #ClimateJustice #PowerShift #ThrivingCommunities

TNGO was one of the few youth-led think tanks invited to the United Nations 10th Session of the Africa Regional Forum, celebrated from April 22-25 in Ethiopia. This year’s theme focused on reinforcing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063, prioritizing the eradication of poverty and hunger. Key forum highlights by TNGO Director of Central and South African Affairs Nodin Nganji include emphasizing the preservation of Africa’s food systems, allocating funding to reduce poverty and inflation, and placing young people at the center of sustainable development efforts through empowering youth to act as a link between their communities. African nations and the UN were urged to invest in human capital, sustainable industrialization, and climate literacy to empower women and young adults with skills needed for jobs to contribute towards a greener future. #politics #Africa #sustainability #UnitedNations #Agenda2063

🎤THE LAUNCH OF CULTIVATING CHANGE IN A WARMING WORLD PROJECT As the climate crisis continues to intensify poverty, hunger, and inequality, disproportionately affecting rural communities, especially women, across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. To address these challenges, Oxfam OXFAM in Zambia, in collaboration with the Community Technology Development Trust- Zambia (CTDT) and the Zambia Alliance for Agroecology and Biodiversity (ZAAB), is launching #CultivatingChangeinaWarmingWorld, a five-year initiative under the SIDA grant. I was honored to be part of this project as master of ceremony 🎤 Looking forward to witnessing the positive impact this initiative will have on the community and the local farmers. 🇳🇵 Nepal's Development Crossroads: Integrity vs. Progress 🚀 Nepal is at a pivotal moment, aiming to graduate from Least Developed Country status by 2026 and meet the SDGs by 2030. However, the government's proposed integrity policy could impact NGOs and INGOs—limiting their access to funding and their role in advocacy and development. 🌱 Transparency and accountability are crucial, but the policy must not stifle the very organizations driving social progress. A balanced approach is essential to ensure collaboration and effective development. #Nepal #HumanRights #SDGs #NGOs #Development #Integrity #Collaboration

17 DAYS OF SIMPLIFYING SDGs IN LAYMAN TERMS: SDG1-DAY 1 Two weeks ago, I had the honor of sitting on a panel discussing youth inclusivity in the implementation of SDGs in Namibia, organised by AYO Namibia and UNDP in Namibia . During the discussion, our moderator, Shaandre Finnies asked a thought-provoking question: "How can all of us contribute to such implementation?" This question has lingered with me, prompting deep reflection. As a Namibian Youth Leader, I’ve decided to dedicate the next 17 days to simplifying the SDGs for my LinkedIn community. I believe that at the core of implementation is the need to create awareness and empowerment through knowledge and skills transfer. By explaining the SDGs in lay terms, I am contributing to this quest. Today, we focus on SDG 1: No Poverty The core element of SDG 1 is to end poverty in all its forms everywhere. This goal aims to ensure that all people, especially the most vulnerable, have equal rights to economic resources, basic services, and access to ownership and control over land and property. How can we partake in implementing SDG 1 in our daily lives? 1. Support Local Businesses:Buying from local businesses helps boost the local economy and create jobs. 2. Volunteer: Engage with organisations working to alleviate poverty in your community. 3. Education and Skills Development: Share knowledge and skills that can help others find employment or start their own businesses. 4. Advocacy: Use your voice to advocate for policies that support poverty reduction. By taking these steps, we can each contribute to the eradication of poverty and the successful implementation of SDG 1. Stay tuned for more insights on the remaining SDGs in the coming days! #SDGs #YouthInclusivity #NoPoverty #Namibia #AYONamibia #UNDPNamibia #SustainableDevelopment #EmpowermentThroughKnowledge #CommunityEngagement #YouthLeadership #GlobalGoals #Awareness #SkillTransfer

Today, Tag A Life International convened a regional meeting for Adolescent Girls and Young Women Africa (AGYW Africa), bringing together participants from across the continent, including representatives from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Nigeria, Cameroon, Eswatini, Mozambique, Rwanda, Zambia, Uganda, and The Gambia. The primary objective was to harness a collective voice and make impactful contributions to the global agenda ahead of the Summit of the Future. As AGYW in Africa continue to navigate unique challenges such as gender-based violence, harmful social norms, and limited access to resources, it is imperative that we prioritize increased investment in addressing these issues. Specifically, the Pact of the Future must clearly articulate and resource these commitments in tangible terms. #AGYWAfrica #YouthEmpowerment #SummitOfTheFuture #PactOfTheFuture African Women's Development Fund (AWDF) Women's Coalition of Zimbabwe

📢 The power of youth empowerment lies in its ability to harness the energy, creativity, and passion of young people to drive positive change in society. “These interventions are making a huge difference in the lives of my people. We are now able to achieve much more and build a brighter future for our village.” 💚 These are the words of Christopher Siabenzu, a local headman and member of the Community Management Committee in Sinazongwe’s Chiyabi Ward in Zambia. ⭐ He expressed these sentiments to Scottish donor representatives, who visited Zambia to see the fruits of the Climate Just Communities' (CJC) work, just one year into the programme’s implementation. 📈 Funded by the Scottish Government as part of the Climate Justice Fund Initiative, CJC has been delivering climate-resilience interventions in Zambia, as well as Rwanda and Malawi, by placing power directly in the hands of those most affected. 💡 Visiting the Chiyabi Ward, Scottish officials noticed how several interventions are already helping the community in tangible ways. One of these interventions has improved small-scale irrigation systems and supported village savings and loan associations. 💧 But more than this, CJC and residents of Chiyabi successfully increased food and income security, simply by introducing drought-tolerant seeds that enable year-round vegetable farming led mostly by women! 🌱👩🏾🌾 Aside from the agenda of observing Sinazongwe and Chiyabi Ward, this NIRAS-organised visit included high-level meetings with Zambian officials, including Mr. Ephraim Shitima, Director of Climate Change at the Ministry of Green Economy & Environment. With a united vision of combatting climate change, the officials reaffirmed their commitment to building Zambia’s resilience, particularly among its most vulnerable communities. 🌳 The delegation also met with CJC delivery partners, which include the Council of Churches in Zambia, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia, the Green Living Movement, Disability Rights Watch, Tearfund and the Civil Society for Poverty Reduction. 🌐 👉🏾 If you are interested to know more, you can read the full story by visiting this link: https://ow.ly/SwRm50TsyCu #ClimateJustCommunities #ClimateResilience #NIRASNews #NIRASProjects #ParticipatoryApproach #ChiyabiWard #Zambia

This November, ActionAidUK staff members Natalia Rodríguez-Malagón and Jessica Mandanda joined the Young Urban Women’s movement in launching the YUW Womanifesto; A Radical Call to Dismantle Structural Violence, And Transition to Well-Being Economies. A monumental launch to call attention to our overarching concern on the countless forms of violence operating through entrenched, interconnected, and mutually reinforcing institutions and systems. You can read the manifesto YUW here: https://lnkd.in/epawydhR We recognize that a crucial step in ending gender-based violence is dismantling these failed economic systems which actively perpetuate inequality and injustice. These systems, which are violent in and of themselves, also allow gender-based violence to thrive. Therefore, this #16DaysofActivism, we call on all young women and all our allies to join us in our movement to dismantle structural violence and create a world that cares for people and the planet above all else. We also call for comprehensive social protection, decent and dignified work as well as safe and healthy working conditions for women and all workers. ActionAid South Africa, ActionAid Malawi, ActionAid International Kenya, ActionAid Ghana and ActionAid International also took part in creating the Womanifesto. #AusterityIsViolence #FeministWellbeingEconomies

In the last two days, White Ribbon Alliance Kenya, with the support of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has been working to #localize the 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧, 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧, 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 in Kwale County. We have trained community action networks, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to share lifesaving frameworks of 𝐄𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲(EPMM) 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧(ENAP) in simple, relatable language that #resonates with their #communities. These local champions are now igniting change—not only localizing EPMM/ENAP but also spreading awareness about 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞(RMC) Charter, igniting women's power to #know and #demand their rights. Today, we take a big step as our #ActionNetworks move into #communities, taking the #conversation to every woman in Kwale to ensure she is informed and her power to #Act is ignited . This is just the beginning. Starting here, we will expand this #localization across Kenya, turning #global commitments into #local solutions that save lives, #protect and #advance health rights.
