For folks considering applying to the CCA MBA in Design Strategy (or any grad program, really) as a career pivot point, this is a great time of year to scope out MBA summer internship opportunities. Build a list of companies you might like to work at or roles you might like to try on. Figure out who has an established summer program. Then, you're poised to apply this time next year. It's an exercise that might also help you decide if grad school is the right move for you.

As an MBA student, the summer internship is more than a fleeting experience. Journey often fraught with challenges. The competition is fierce, and the stakes are high. with high expectations —we envision challenging projects, mentorship from experienced professionals, and a chance to make a tangible impact. However, the reality can be quite different. Limited mentorship can dampen the internship experience. — And to navigate this competitive landscape, many of us (including myself) are turning to our college's alumni network > sharing my resume and seeking advice on potential internship opportunities. While I'm optimistic about my chances, the uncertainty remains. :) One thing I'm certain of is that —I’ll make a meaningful impact, no matter where my internship takes me.

Thrilled to Have Been on the Other Side! Last night I had the amazing opportunity to be a panel speaker for our first-year MSBA students at University of Southern California. As a second-year student, it was incredibly fulfilling to pay my knowledge forward and share my experience with this year’s class. I was joined by some of my super smart and talented classmates: Juan Herrera, Michelle Lie, Lisa Udechukwu, Sruti B., and Xander Izower. Big thanks to USC Marshall School of Business GCS and BASA for arranging such a valuable session, and a special shoutout to Eric Chow for moderating the event so seamlessly. During the panel, we discussed the journey from being first-year students to landing our summer internships, covering the challenges and strategies that helped us navigate the process. We had the chance to reflect on our roles in industries like e-commerce, retail, CPG, and consumer goods, and offered advice on building connections, being ready for the U.S. market, and how to stand out during internship searches. A year ago, I was in the audience for these sessions, and now being on the other side felt surreal but exciting. It was an amazing reminder of how much we grow in just a year, and I’m grateful for the chance to contribute. If you attended, feel free to connect with me and my fellow panelists, and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out! #USCMarshall #MSBA #KnowledgeSharing #PayItForward #CareerJourney #InternshipTips #Ecommerce #DataScience #ProductManagement

The Future Leaders: Reflections on Internship Experiences There’s a lot of discussion around interns these days, and as a former intern manager, I can confidently say that interns are indeed the future of many organizations. The best and brightest bring fresh perspectives and new ideas. I once worked with an intern who was unsure about their career path. They decided to take some time after their internship and turned down a full-time offer to explore their options. Reflecting on this, I sometimes wonder if that same uncertainty about career direction exists in me. How often do we find ourselves too far down our career paths to take a pause and reassess our goals and direction? Taking a moment to reflect on our career choices, just as that intern did, can be incredibly valuable. It’s never too late to reconsider our paths and ensure we are heading in the direction that truly aligns with our passions and aspirations. #interns #leadership #goals #hope #direction #path #fears #planning #career #job #work #time #values

We are so excited to welcome our MBA Finance Leadership Development Program Interns!! It’s Intern season and as many interns are embarking on a wonderful experience this summer, I wanted to share a few tips to help maximize your summer internship. Fellow campus talent recruiters, feel free to add more tips in the comments! 1. Make an effort to attend any events organized by your program. It's a fantastic opportunity to meet your fellow interns and other employees. 2. Network! Network! Network! Don't limit your networking to just your manager and team. Try to connect with leaders from other departments as well. This will not only help you build valuable connections and networking skills but also give you insights into the company you're working for. 3. Embrace feedback when it comes your way. Feedback is a positive thing that can help you grow as an employee and enhance your existing skills. 4. Don't hesitate to ask questions. Remember, we only learn when we ask. 5. If your company has employee resource networks or affinity groups, consider joining one or more! It's a great way to meet people who share similar identities and learn from those in different areas of the business. 6. And of course, make the most of this summer and soak up as much knowledge as you can. Enjoy! Congratulations to all the interns who have started or are about to start this summer! #mbainterns #financeinterns #kelloggintern #mccombsintern #dardenintern #dukeintern #mccombsintern

Hey folks! As students with dreams reaching for the stars, we seek chances to turn aspirations into reality. Fueled by an unyielding passion, we strive to leave an indelible mark on the world. In our quest for balance between stones and petals, we occasionally grasp the wrong one. Driven by my overflowing enthusiasm, I eagerly sought an internship, craving to immerse myself in the intricacies of corporate life and embrace the pulse of professional experience. Challenges arose after my internship at an EdTech company, where I was tasked with generating leads. Payment delays ensued despite my patience, leading to ignored calls and messages. Only after directly contacting the company did I receive compensation. Unfortunately, the lack of physical interaction in this online setting left me without certification, underscoring the complexities of virtual experiences in the modern professional landscape. Exercise caution before proceeding; there's a risk of falling victim to scams. Stay vigilant and discerning. Quick picks often lead to bitter sips; slow down and savor the sweet choices.

Summer Sights: A Tale of My Summer Internship (5/30) 🏢 I bet you did not realize the importance of this before your Summer Internship... During the daily operations of trying to figure out the way out of the problem that has been assigned to us by the company, we often tend to confuse our ideas in the beginning, leading to an extended period of nothingness in terms of contribution. 🤷♂️ The key to clearing out our path right in the beginning lies in "Asking the right questions." 🤔 It is crucial to realize that as an MBA Student, your internship expects you to work like a manager and report to some big names in the company. Now, think about it this way... Every question you ask is eating up the time of the manager you are reporting to, and hence, the number of questions at your disposal significantly reduces. Therefore, knowing what to ask and where are we exactly heading becomes the golden rule for acing the first two weeks of your internship. ♠️ It is always okay to make mistakes. The problem only arises when we refuse to make sense of and learn from those mistakes. Sounds easy, but trust me, at this stage of your career, it is not! "Take your time and ask the right questions rather than taking up your mentor's time..." 🤝 #SummerInternship2024 #DCMShriram #MBA #SummeratDCM

Preparation. It isn't one of the principles of an exceptional internship because it is so fundamental to any internship. To include it as a principle in Intern Management: Principles for Designing an Exceptional Internship, we would also have to include drink water, eat food and sleep. Today is March 11th and many companies have interns starting in 10 weeks. Surprisingly, some aren't prepared for their interns. Over the weekend, an MBA shared with me that her firm is utterly unprepared for their interns - having no idea what projects to assign or even where the interns will sit. Worse, this is nothing new! So, why not take an hour today and prepare for your interns? That time will make a tremendous difference since you have so much lead time. To all those companies that understand this and already prepare, thank you so much! You are making a world of difference for this next generation of leaders. For those that don't, please raise your awareness and purchase Intern Management for yourself and How To Intern Successfully for your interns. It will be the best investment you make in your internship program and it will lead to innovation throughout your organization. Thank you. #internship #management #innovation
