Defense attorney Lisa Kirsch-Satawa said she sees no advantage to getting rid of or reducing Zoom hearings; she said there should be more hearings on Zoom, especially for civil and child protection cases because there is little testimony taken. "Every time we go to court in person and we sit there and wait, it costs our clients money," Kirsch-Satawa said. "A lot of hearings, pretrial or status conferences, they take 10 minutes and you might be waiting in person for three hours. ... People are getting child care, taking time off work, all of these things in order to be there in person. It can be very inconvenient and unfair at times." "If the parties agree it's by Zoom, why does the court care?" Check out the link in bio to learn more.

Whilst it is always preferable that parties or parents can agree the arrangements for their children upon a separation, this is not always possible without assistance and guidance. If parties or parents cannot agree, the Court can be asked to resolve the dispute. Today on Radio NL News Mornings with Jeff Andreas: B.C. man awarded $5,000 in damages in first-of-its-kind intimate image case In a first-of-its-kind case, a B.C. tribunal has ruled on a dispute involving the non-consensual sharing of intimate images, awarding damages and issuing orders that the photos be destroyed and taken offline. The province introduced the Intimate Images Protection Act earlier this year giving the Civil Resolution Tribunal the jurisdiction to address these types of claims to provide an alternative to the more difficult, lengthy and potentially costly options of trying to pursue redress through criminal or civil court. “For this to be one of the early cases using the maximum penalty in the face of some pretty reprehensible conduct, I think will encourage more victims of this type of misconduct to come forward and to take these steps knowing that there is a mechanism that is going to get them real compensation.” https://lnkd.in/gYCXTG5F
