"A developed country isn’t where the poor have cars; it’s where the rich use public transportation." I used to wonder if this was just one of those Instagram quotes you double-tap and scroll past. Not that I’m "rich" (unless you count my imaginary Shark Tank investments), but thanks to my zero interest in driving, 80% of my commute happens on public transport. This holiday season, I decided to level up—500+ km of travel with my teenage son, relying mostly on buses and trains, with private vehicles only for last-mile connections. And guess what? It worked! No missed connections, no dramatic “Are we there yet?” meltdowns (well, mostly). With companies calling people back to the office more often, here’s my pitch: try public transport at least once a week. You might save money, reduce your carbon footprint, and—bonus—get an excuse to not answer emails because "the network was bad on the bus." But it's not just on us as individuals. Companies can play a pivotal role by advocating for better public transportation options. By pushing for improved transit systems, businesses can ensure their employees have efficient and reliable ways to commute, benefiting everyone. Let’s roll into the new year with better habits, fewer traffic jams, and a collective push for enhanced public transit. Choosing how to commute? Trains carry more people and can ease traffic and emissions. Cars offer flexibility but add to congestion. Both have impacts on our daily lives, time management, stress and the environment. Weighing these options is key for smarter personal management, urban travel and planning. #Commuting #PublicTransit #Sustainability #TrafficManagement #UrbanMobility #TorontoRushhour
