As a Recruiter settling into the UAE market, having previously worked in the UK - I can absolutely, no doubt say that the volume and competition in the UAE is unlike anything you could imagine. It is crazy competitive, theres a significant amount of talent either already based here - or looking to relocate here. The biggest struggle out here for many candidates is the ability to be seen once you have hit that apply button. Why? Because any one job advert can receive 1000 - 4000 applications (And thats on a good day, depending on the role this can be as high as 7000). What on earth is happening with the hiring processes in Dubai??🤡 In recent months, I have encountered so many negative aspects of the hiring and recruiting processes that I have genuinely started to doubt the credibility of all human resources, talent acquisition and recruitment professionals in this country. Here are some fun examples: ❌Recruiters and HR Managers scheduling calls for a specific date and time, then not showing up for the call and disappearing into thin air as if they never existed. ❌ Making candidates go through multiple rounds of interviews, only to tell them that they have decided not to hire anyone for the role, as they have realised, they don’t really need this role after all. ❌ Telling the candidate that the interview was a success and that the offer letter will follow shortly but then completely disappear, ignoring follow-up messages, calls and e-mails, as if none of this even took place. ❌ Companies posting job ads that are misleading, misinforming and do not match with the role they are actually hiring for. Has professionalism completely left the building in Dubai, or is wasting everyone’s time some sort of a new trend? 😤 Thanks Kadre K. Best of luck to the 3 senior Sales professionals starting their new roles in Dubai this week via myself. Interestingly, all 3 candidates were immediately available due to a variety of factors such as company restructuring, redundancy etc. Often, there is debate on LinkedIn about usage of the 'Green Banner' and whether there is a stigma attached. Which is rather unfortunate. Hopefully this goes to show that each candidate/ interview should be taken on face value. Life happens and circumstances outside of our control can dictate our career paths. Interviewing someone out of work doesn't have any bearing on their skill set and conversely as this week has shown to me, some of the best talent in the market may be currently out of work.
