Everyone needs to get to Wegmans level on branding. They announced Wegmans was coming to NC on Monday and not sure if that’s more relevant or sports gambling. May go with Wegmans. Ha. Point being, they won’t be open for probably 2 years and people already have their shopping lists ready and day they’ll pitch their tent outside to be the first customer. That’s customer loyalty. That’s treating your customer right. That’s ensuring repeat business. That’s getting people who’ve never been to Wegmans excited about something they know nothing about. Heard someone who is from Florida (where Publix is the go-to) say they were excited about going to Wegmans because it’s better than Publix. 😬 Be like Wegmans. #branding #customerloyalty

When Brand Partnerships Go Too Far: Major League Eating (the MLE, as it's more commonly known) has banned the hotdog eating GOAT, Joey Chestnut, from the Nathan's Famous, Inc. Hot Dog Eating Contest on the 4th of July (check your local cable listings). It turns out Chestnut signed a deal with rival Impossible Foods and is apparently downing plant-based dogs in a new contest on Labor Day. Should Nathan's have let him compete anyways? To me the best possible outcome for Nathan's is for a Nathan's "eathlete" (yes, I made that term up) to dethrone the king in front of a national audience. But in this case, if you can't beat them, ban them, because name drops of a competitor to national media at a brand's signature event are a surefire way create job openings for an entire new marketing team at Nathan's. If you were Nathan's, how would you have handled it? Apologies for sharing this travesty if it makes it hard for you to focus the rest of the day.

We took a look at the most recent ad in their long running campaign and compared it to the very first to understand consumer response and what's made it so successful. Here are some key factors that have driven its effectiveness and duration: Grounded in a true consumer insight: Everyone can relate to not feeling like themselves when they are hungry. Insight relates to a product truth: The product has properties that truly satisfy the hunger that drives the ‘out of character’ behaviour. Fertile territory for creative: The heart of the idea means the execution has to be grounded in out of character behaviour, delivered with humour, in a scenario that is locally resonant and where Snickers is the hero. There are so many ways to execute on that idea. Familiar and fresh: Stories and scenarios have evolved so they feel totally fresh, but still keep the familiarity people love with the initial insight. Broad appeal: The brand found something everyone could relate to (inclusive camaraderie) after a time of being more “exclusively male.” Global platform, local execution: The idea resonates everywhere meaningfully, both within and across countries. Cross-platform: Works across media, from TV to digital to tweets to OOH Consistency: Snickers established the idea and stuck with it so now it’s truly owned and could only be for Snickers.
