🌟 I need Your Help Reaching 5k Views!🌟 I'm thrilled to share something close to my heart with you all. I recently had the opportunity to dive into a discussion about higher education, student debt, and the mismatch between what we expect from our degrees and what we actually get. It's a topic that's so important to me, and I'd love your support in spreading the word! 🎥 Can you do me a favor? Please take a moment to watch the video until the end. Trust me, there's some valuable stuff in there! 👍 If you enjoy what you see (and I hope you do!), could you give it a thumbs up on YouTube? It really helps get the message out there. 💬 And hey, don't be shy! I want to hear your thoughts. Drop a comment on the video and let's start a conversation. Your perspective matters. 🔁 Oh, and one more thing! Sharing is caring, right? If you think this video could resonate with someone you know, please share it with them. Let's aim for 10k views together! 🚀 My mission is simple: to shift the focus from degrees to skills, from completion rates to essential skill mastery. It's a big goal, but with your help, I know we can make it happen. 🔗 Ready to join me on this journey? Click the link below to watch the full TEDx talk. Redefining the Goal of Education | Kevin Fleming | TEDxMSJC

Culturally, it posits a different lens of achievement and goals (ie, Asian culture). The push and pull of immigrant college students have a different mindset of earning a degree. Does it provide prestige? Does the degree financially support the parents back home (original country)? Great talk, please do more … Part 2? Part 3?
Kevin… once again your clarity matches your exceptional energy and presentation skills. I remember Bill Daggett would inspire educators years ago… they would say “wow” just as I do now watching you gently nudge us with deep conviction that we have a way… may you reach the millions who deserve to see this message… new metrics, new mindset… would make a great title for your next book!
Kevin J Fleming, Ph.D. done! Watched and posted. Keep going. I'm always amazed when I research a college/university and they do not offer a career exploration class. Really?
Great talk, and very thought provoking! You are making all us "Dr. Kevin Fleming"s of the world look good :) Thanks for the insights, and keep up the good work!

8moBRAVO! We need more voices on this subject. I believe the solution to the problem you are highlighting is competence-based education, where there is no such thing as failure, and no such thing as a time limit. Rather, you either meet a standard or you don't. If you don't, you simply try again until you finally get there. Some people will progress faster than others and that is okay. But in the end, all graduates are actually competent. As things are now, 49% of all high school students in California do not meet the standards for graduation. Yet graduation rate is over 95%. How is that possible? If we moved all education in this country from the current joke of a system to the commonsense approach of competence-based education, we could transform this mess into something wonderful.
